What To Even Call This Blog Post · 8:06am Oct 12th, 2015
Man, I am writing this under probably the second-least most-conducive mental condition: having just written another short story.
So, what's news:
First, I've nearly finished Non Nobis Domine. I'm pleased with that. About halfway through the second-to-second-last chapter. It's been a slog, what with that and doing my day job (hint: I don't get paid for either! :P) but I am really ready to finish it. Loose ends being tied. (in related news, they stole my idea for the CMC's cutie marks. Darn it. Now it's no longer original)
Second, I've written up Illusion of Choice into 'The Nox Panopticon'. It's still (currently) in a single short story format, but I feel like it's going to become my new baby. Prince Blueblood, Regal Warden of the Nox Panopticon, deals with a changeling infiltrator. Very much inspired by (and in a similar format to) the Eisenhorn trilogy by Dan Abnett, which if you have not read you are missing out on life.
Thirdly, all my entries to the Writeoff minific contest got knocked out in the prelims. Honestly was expecting that. That's the first one I wrote in Second. In this blog post, not on the contest. Anyway, I've written one up to a full completion in short story format, (my Trixie one. Called "The Illusion Of Choice". Basically it was saying the chosen illusion rather than there being no choice.) a second (the first one, which is in second) is written up in 'may-be-continued' format, and the third (the second) has been rewritten, and I do not know what to do with.
Hope that isn't too confusing.
Anyway, that's what's happening. I don't really know what else to put in a blog post, because it usually seems to be mindless or meaningless pontificating.
OH! I got two more books. God's Philosophers and Vlad The Impaler. Pretty different topics, eh? Eh? eh?
Not necessarily. I figured that's what you were going to do when reading the story; it wasn't not obvious.
Also, when you say you are Catholic... do you do or believe everything the Pope says, even if it may or may not be considered blasphemous? Do you even like Francis? Or do I have a somewhat botched view of Catholicism? Just curious.

Ooh, a Catholic question. Them's me favourite.
So how it works with the Pope is pretty simple. He's the head of the Church (vicariously for Jesus, that's where we get the term vicar from. Someone who is a representative of Jesus), which is sorta like being a CEO. Not everything a CEO says or does is approved of by the entire company, nor is even necessarily wise. What is different with the Pope is that he is in the role of successor to St Peter, about whom Jesus said that he would build his church on, and even hell could not hold out against it.
What we believe about that is that Jesus would not let his Church be pretty cool for the first generation or so, and then leave them to get on with it, but is with the successor of Peter for all time, and making sure that when he teaches authoritatively, as the Pope in that position, on stuff that is a matter of faith (ie theology or morals), the Pope will not teach wrongly.
That doesn't mean that the Pope might be going to his local supermarket, look at a rather-off fruit, say 'These oranges are bad,' and then the Church is saying that oranges are a tool of the devil. Just that when he is speaking as the pope that God will prevent him teaching wrongly.
If that makes sense.

Perhaps, but you did not answer: do you like Francis?
And how many books on philosophy unrelated to religion have you read?
Good thing I learned from this encounter was that I had somewhat correct knowledge of Catholicism.

I think that Francis is doing the best job he can. I think a lot of his remarks are a little controversial because people don't know his personal context. Take, for instance, his comments that 'trickle-down' capitalism doesn't work. I'm no economist and have no real opinion on the matter, but if you look at where he comes from, there's definitely a lot of work in Argentina to keep the poor down.
I preferred Benedict, but what can you do? :P
As for the philosophy, I haven't read as much as I want to. Even this book isn't a straight philosophy book, but on how the medieval philosophers paved the way for modern science. I've been trying to read The Republic at the moment, actually.

I actually have a list of books, but I dunno where to upload them (I like to keep my other accounts separate from this one, so no Drive).
Also, Marxism and capitalism are two evils that need to be eradicated, in my honest opinion. Everything good about them is based on older philosophies, e.g. sharing is good, and you should keep the fruits of your efforts.
Anyway, thanks for answering my questions.
