A blog that will probably lose me a follower, or two. · 4:16am Oct 6th, 2015
A pre blog warning: The following blog will detail the main reasons I no longer associate myself with any religion. If this offends you, you do not need to continue. I will not judge you for your beliefs.
To the site staff: If this blog breaks any site rules, I'll gladly take it down.
Okay, so I don't bring this kind of thing up for no reason. As some of you may have read in a recent post of mine a member of my family was put into a hospital after a massive heart attack. (I won't mention any thing personal about them for privacy reasons.)
In the week immediately following this, he had a somewhat quick semi-recovery. To the point where he was allowed to go back home with a defibrillator vest. The problem, though, was that his first day at cardiac rehab had him so overstressed it landed him back in the hospital.
Not even a week ago he was sent to a specialist hospital up in Chicago, where he was stabilized and put through some emergency surgeries. As of this minute he is okay and they are getting him off of another ventilator.
Now comes the part of this blog where I offended everyone who decided to not pay attention to my warning.
You see, this whole time he's been getting treated I've had my dad constantly telling me that "all we have to do is pray, then God will make it better." This way of thinking has bothered me for some time, if I'm honest, because it completely ignores all the advancements of medical technology and seems to place a life in the hands of a being who has shown, at least to me, no proof of existance.
It's not to say I have a problem with religion or religious people, but damn. Some of the people I've met have told me that they would jump off of a bridge if their pastor told them that the Lord would catch them.
To those who may wish to know, my anger towards the "the Lord heals all" mentality is made most prominent when it's used with the idea that anything bad that happens to a person is a test from god.
If that's true then god's a sadist.
Once again, I feel like reminding anyone reading this that I don't care if you follow a religion. Seriously, who am I to tell you how to live your life?
Keep in mind though that I don't take kindly to people telling me I should do, have, or participate in anything they do without ways to prove I should.
To end this on a less bitter note: I am hopefully coming out with another chapter of From Under The Cork Tree sometime this month, barring any more trouble.
True religion to me is basically this: believe what you want to believe. You don't have to have a copious amount of followers, nor do you need to live by laws or guidelines written by another. Just live the way you want, and make plans for the future in your own way, not someone else's.
I stand by what you say:
You have earned a plus in my book, and I hope that everything works out for the best. I'm so, so sorry to hear about what you're going through, and can only give you reassurance.
And good on you for saying what you truly mean here! The world needs more people who can stand up for themselves and proclaim it to the world. Especially the Internet.
