Yet Another Somber Tale · 2:00pm Aug 31st, 2015
When Sombra was young, he was known as gifted but aimless, having no known aspirations or dreams. None who dared to ask came away with useful answer - the most honest they ever got was gloomy "No comment." Worried about the future of his firstborn, Umbra had decided to set up a test for his son. To this end, he laid out a bag of bits, a spellbook and a bottle of wine on the table, left a note to Sombra telling him to pick his present out of presented selection, and then hid in the next room with his wife to observe.
His wife was curious, however - "Dear, how would that tell us what is his fate?"
Umbra shrugged - "Should he pick up the bits, well... that means he would make a fine banker. A spellbook will tell us that his future is that of a magician. And if it`s a bottle... then he`ll become a wastrel."
Walking in, Sombra quickly found the note. Giving it a quick read-through, he approached the table. He picked up a spellbook and leafed through it briefly. Then he picked up the bag of bits and nibbled one coin to see if it`s real gold. Finally, he took the bottle, pulled a cork out and gave it a sniff. A moment of hesitation and... all three items disappeared in his saddlebag, Sombra walking out whistling a merry tune.
Umbra paled. "Gods preserve us. He`s going to become a politician."
Not just any politician; a wastrel, thieving, spell-casting politician...

The joke IS that politician is never satisfied with a choice - they`d grab everything they think they might get away with.

... and if they cannot get away with it, they change the laws so that they can.
