Who's at the top of the food chain in our oceans? Why my favorite Whale/Dolphin the Killer Whale of course!
What don't believe me? Watch this documentary about a Killer whale killing its would be rival the Great White Shark.
And with that my case on who's dominant in the food chain is closed.
Now that's not what I wanted to talk about, what I want to talk about is why are they so friendly to humans?
First off let me stop you in your tracks right there, I'm not including the attacks that have happened by the ones being held at places like Sea World. Those are whales in captivity and thus have a little more logic behind their attacks. No, what I'm talking about are the wild ones. These creatures are incredibly intelligent (as shown in the documentary) which is one of the ways they made their way to the top of the food Chain, and yet there has never been a recorded incident where a wild Orca (another name for Killer whale for those who don't know) decided to take a bite out of human.
On answer is probably one of the first one to come to mind: "Since they are in the same family as the Dolphins, then they'd share that friendliness." True, but that just leads to my main question: Why? Why are these massive sea mammals that are king of the predatory food chain so friendly with humans? "Could be that it's because they see us as no threat to them?" Very true, in the water they could be as dangerous as sharks to anyone swimming out there a ways, or even in shallow water as they have had no problem munching on seal pups. Yet they're not, and if anything are playful in the water, or even if you're on top of the water as well, like so:
Now I'm sure there's going to be a comment down there (if I even get comments on this) pointing out the the killer whale in this video might have just been curious about the paddle board instead of playing with it. But the Question is still there, why are they so friendly????
