What's New With Prince Rutherford? (If anyone still pays attention) · 12:32am Aug 6th, 2015
*Takes Off Yak Helmet for a Moment*
I've not blogged on here in quite a bit, but I've had good reason. My life has been quite a whirlwind since I actively used the blog. So for anyone who still reads it, here's an update. I was going by Old Toby, but frankly Prince Rutherford is awesome - so why the hell not?
Anyway, for anyone reading this who has no idea who I am you're correct in that. My biggest claim to fame is that I'm Bookplayer's husband. Yes, the Bookplayer. You know her right? Badass fic author. Shipfic author extraordinare, all around amazing writer, insightful commentator, and entirely too intelligent to be married to a yak like me? Yeah, her.
Well, if you follow her, then you know that we have an awesome little girl who came into the world on the eve of last year's BronyCon and has been itching to go ever since. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that Trixie (yes, that's her name because Book and I are cool like that), has had ponies on the TV nonstop from birth - but either way. Trixie looked at me the other day and said "Father - dear and wonderful father whom I admire and love ardently: Won't you and mother please escort me to the great gathering that is BronyCon? I know it is many long leagues from our homeland, but I am prepared for such an arduous journey, frought with danger - but we can do it father! I believe in you!" (Yes, she's got quite the vocabulary for a one-year-old.)
She's totally amazing, and a genuine gift. I never knew I could love someone so much.
Her birth and growth pale my own accomplishments over the past two years. Still, I'm proud of those things. I have the honor of having been a contributing author to Rivendell and Ruins of the North, two officially licensed supplements for The One Ring, which is a table-top roleplaying game set in Middle-earth - the world of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. I got paid to write stories featuring Aragorn, Bilbo, Glorfindel and other iconic characters from my favorite books and it was approved by the owners of the property. It was literally a dream come true. I've got more stuff in the works that'll be released in the future - but I can't discuss it do to my NDA.
My own small press, Barrel Rider Games, published a sci-fi roleplaying game called White Star: White Box Science Fiction Roleplaying. The game has become a success beyond my wildest dreams and has really cemented my place in the OSR (Old School Roleplaying) community. A personal achievement in the highest caliber - and the money wasn't bad either.
So yeah, that's what's up in my world.
