The question is simpler than the answer.
Should a story's amount of likes matter if it's never been in the Featured Box?
Because getting your story in the Featured Box is basically the crowning achievement of the site, I won't do readings of them. But likes are more obscure as to how much of an achievement getting them is. A lot of people take it as a milestone when their story gets 100 likes, but scaling that with the amount of users, that number is massively insignificant. Stories around 500 likes is much more impressive, but more importantly, stories at that level have at some point been featured whereas there have been stories with more than 200 likes that have evaded the F.B.'s attention.
But where does one really draw the line? Should there really be a like limit as long the story has never been featured? But I've seen stories get in the F.B. for a day or two then fade back into the shadows. One particular case I know of, there story hasn't even breached 100 likes. Should that story be read even though it's been featured? Everyone knows that the Featured Box is 80% horseshit, consisting almost solely of clop fics, overdone shipping or incomplete stories that have attracted a large following, so should the F.B. even matter?
The liking and featured system are two very different things, but neither is an exact science. What're your thoughts?
Currently my system is that no story that has been featured may be read, nor may stories with more than 150 likes.
