Idea: Without Magic
Remember in the first movie when Twilight said “Equestria will find a way to survive without my Element of Harmony.”
And remember what happened in the following season? When Tirek well…WON?
Sure they Dues Ex Machinaed it with the Elements, but without Twilight around, they would have lost.
So…idea. What if Twilight DID end up getting trapped in the human world for 2 and ½ years? Then came back to an Equestria that had experienced Tirek pretty much winning and eating the magic of everyone there was to feast on?
Hell, she left mere seconds before the portal closed after all. Anything, from Brad doing the cliché and pull her in for a kiss, to Twilight tripping over her still new human feet could have spelled the doom for her home world.
Would Twilight’s friends still be around? Or at least, with any magic?
Would the princesses still be around? Kept safe in the Crystal Empire thanks to the Crystal Heart? And even if they were, the plan of ‘give Twilight a big stick’ wouldn’t work, because Tirek still had plenty of ponies to eat back when he could match her blow for blow with all the alicorns to empower her.
Would Sunset come home with her?
Would they be a couple? They’re the only ponies on that side of the portal after all. There’s no way in hell there wouldn’t be some serious bonding between the two.
And if you really wanted to mess things up…would you go with the ’two worlds have different time zones’ theory that helps explain just why Sunset never met Twilight and makes the time difference about 10-12 years on the Equestria side of things.

Oh and current chapter of Take Two is about 85%-90% complete. Expect it sometime this week or next Monday. Might take an extra chapter or two more than what I had originally thought though.
Who is to say that Tirek would have won without Twilight in the world? I would figure that without her ace in the hole, Celestia would have taken a much different stance with Tirek. Ditto Luna.
Plus we would be talking about a Celestia racked with guilt over losing Twilight for 2.5 years if not forever. Sure she told her the dangers of it, but she is responsible for allowing this whole plan to happen. Now you have the missing element, the missing protege and dragon. She would not exactly be herself.
Who is to say that Discord would have stayed reformed? The elements aren't there to reel him in, and then there is that matter of the plunder seeds. Twilight wouldn't have been there to stop it.
Tirek could have (while unprepared) been in an Equestria inundated by plunder vines, ostensibly under the rule of Cadance who is the only alicorn left after Luna and Celestia were entombed, with the solar bodies controlled by the whim of Discord, and Cadance having no ability to stop him because the world would end without sunlight because she isn't capable of doing the whole sun/moon thing by herself.
I really don't see a free Discord in that case being interested in any offer of Tirek's. Discord would have Tirek in chains and back to Tartarus faster than he could even pitch his whole plan.
Actually I am kind of surprised you had no reply to what I wrote in reply to this blog.
