MCU: Ava DuVernay NOT directing Black Panther film after all · 7:27pm Jul 4th, 2015
Here's what Ava DuVernay, Golden Globe nominated director of Selma, had to say on the rumors:
“I guess I'll declare my independence from this rumor on 4th of July weekend and Essence weekend!” she said. “I'm not signing on to direct Black Panther.”
“I think I’ll just say we had different ideas about what the story would be. Marvel has a certain way of doing things and I think they’re fantastic and a lot of people love what they do. I loved that they reached out to me.”
“I loved meeting Chadwick [Boseman] and writers and all the Marvel execs,” she continues. “In the end, it comes down to story and perspective. And we just didn't see eye to eye. Better for me to realize that now than cite creative differences later.”
I suppose it's better that she be honest now and drop out on good terms, then stick on and get more and more frustrated later.
I was really hoping that she'd direct it, as I felt Selma was one of the best films of 2014, and she did an incredible job directing it, but alas, it was not meant to be.
Hopefully they'll find a good director soon, and I hope the movie is good.
Oh man. Inlike though that she explained why and that it was a good reason. Hope the director they end up getting can wash the bad taste of Age of Ultron out of our mouths.
