Why brain? Why? · 4:43am Jun 3rd, 2015
One of the biggest frustrations of writing a longer story is sometimes inspiration strikes you for something much later on that you can't properly put down or talk about because of all the things that have to happen before that part of the story does. It's maddening.
I'm presently dealing with writer's block on finishing Not A Dog's last chapter so I can return to working on Protecting Harmony. Then taking a break for some more musical exploration for later in the story, Sky Sentinels ends up inspiring an entire small arc to do when things are in the thick of the coming war. Seriously, why does my brain do this to me! I can't write this until I have a lot of lead-up completed! It's got too much involved to write immediately because some things aren't finalized ahead of that stage of the storyline!
I've gotten 3-4 sudden chapters, or major parts of them, written already, despite being well ahead of their given points in the storyline. First of those is almost entirely complete for it's place in the second book. One or two more plot points need to be settled and it's a done chapter more than ten in advance. I'm looking forward to letting those two characters be revealed, as I just love the pair. Can't reveal anything cause I want it to be a huge surprise, but oh how I like those two, and what their little tale is going to have. Misunderstandings and facepalming/facehoofing alongside serious badassing for protectiveness. In time I can reveal them, but at least I don't have the chapter burning in my brain because there's little preemptive detail necessary.
As for the big idea that's making me crazy right now, the linked song is thematic to it, if that wasn't obvious. It's not until the 4th or 5th book, but it ties directly to the lore getting established over in The Wonderbolts Initiative and is pretty much going to be a 2-3 chapter arc focusing on the Wonderbolts in action. I'll spoiler the thing, though I figure anyone looking at this is going to look anyway.
This is what inspired it in my mind.
The story of Protecting Harmony is a bit over the top, but it is not going to disappoint for action and dramatic scenes, especially the further along I get. This is just one glimpse of dozens of scenes I have planned.
The battle of Cloudsdale. Over 1000 Wonderbolts rush to the defense of the city under Soarin's command. Expect it to be as epic as it suggests, and it will actually be separate from the Bearers because they're not allowed in most pitched battles due to being too high value.
