The Half Millenium War: Why?

I'm getting close to a chapter revealing three new things. But the most obvious will be the origins of these dragons that are sapien-sized. The real fun will be in writing it. So much fun that I'm a bit giddy. Why? Because not only will I be able to make use of the cover made by my dearest friend Emmanuel, who made my profile-pic, I get to make use of a race I always wanted to make use of. But to make it happen I need to get my tired ass into gear and make the chapters that will lead to the prequel... but as a bonus, here is an appetizer:

The armored dragon stared at Alistar for the longest of time. So long that Icy acually thought he was frozen on the spot. After some time he pointed an armored claw at the squad of ponies.
"Just tell Queen Faust to get you off this planet before the Organic eats you." He warned and with his right claw he let his palm hover over his sheathed sword.
Alistar's eyes widened at the name and he could hear Mane mouth the name. They looked at eachother then at the now distant dragon.
"Queen Faust died more than 1500 years ago." Icy said, bringing the dragon, Jade, to a halt.
He turned to the ponies and while not visible through his helmet, Icy could still see his confusion.
"Dead? Then who's your leader?" Jade asked, arms folded and posture hinting of smugness.
Icy looked at Jade's helmet; roughly where his eyes should have been.
"Princess Celestia. Princess of the Sun." Icy proclaimed with pride.
The effect was immediate: Jade's arms fell to his sides and he now stood straighter than before. He walked closer to Icy and knelt down so that they were eye-level.
"Princess Celestia?" Jade asked with a voice that shocked Icy. a voice filled with... Warmth? At Icy's nod, Jade looked to the ground and chuckled. "I see. So she's a Princess now."
Now it was Icy's turn to look confused.
"You know Princess Celestia?" He asked, even if it was a tad louder than he intended.
"Know her?" Jade responded with a hint of laughter. "I saved her!"
