So, About That One Fic I Wrote · 2:20am May 31st, 2015
If you're reading this, you're probably already aware (or are about to become aware) that I rewrote Verdant Song.
Those who remember the original will probably look at the first chapter of the new version, think to themselves, "This seems familiar," and then start to skim over things until they find new stuff. That's fine and dandy and I'm happy just to have people click on it. I did add a lot of subtleties and little nuances that are different or new. Some of these changes don't matter, but some of the subtle changes are necessary to understand what's going on.
I want to point out that the new chapters do not correspond with the old ones, so you probably don't want to go skipping the first 4 chapters because you read the first 4 of the other version. Otherwise you'll be really confused and that's no good. I've added new characters and new scenes and rearranged some things. More than half is completely new.
What's next for Verdant Song? I've got four more chapters that are pretty close to done. And I mean pretty dang close. That'll conclude the first story arc, which I'm gonna call "In the Shadow of Verdence" because I have a thing for titling subsections of works but a title for each chapter is overkill.
I'm honestly not sure if I have it in me to write the other two arcs I have in mind. It took me two years, about six drafts, about a quarter-million words, and Diarchs know how many hours of my life to get this far. And that's including almost a whole year of time with almost no responsibilities whatsoever. Now I'm in college and stuff. I just can't write the way some of you guys write, putting out thousands of words every week. It's not a matter of quality, it's a matter of time and focus. I have the motivation and the ideas, but I really struggle to just sit down and write them.
(Side Note: Yes, the OC M/M fluffy shipfic I wrote distracted me from Verdant Song. But only for a few hours, I promise!)
At any rate, I hope you enjoy the rewrite. It's pretty much a new fic that borrows the premise and a handful of scenes from the other one. Thanks for checking it/me out! (wink wink nudge nudge)
I find the updated version to be a worthy successor to the original. Bravo!
And if I may ask, what college? Or is that too much of a revealing question?
