Productivity! Wheeee! · 7:33pm May 22nd, 2015
Alright, here's "Productivity! Wheeee!" take two. The first time I tried writing this blog post, it ended up being really long and ~90% silly jokes, and I didn't even cover all of the points I wanted to. Maybe I should try writing crack fics just to get that stuff out of my system.
Anyway, I finally seem to be getting up to speed writing Apple of Discord. The rough draft of chapter 2 is done, and I've started on chapter 3. Before I can post chapter 2, I need to get two things done. First, I need to make a header drawing for it. Going without a header drawing would be unthinkable, as evidenced by the fact that nobody has ever done it in the history of Fimfiction, or indeed, fiction in general. Second, I need to get it preread. I can't believe I haven't been doing this already; how silly of me. I have a few candidates in mind and am getting in touch with some of them. Everything seems to be going smoothly. Don't worry about any further time-wasting, since, as I mentioned, I have already begun to write chapter 3, and it should come out not too long after chapter 2.
Another tidbit of Apple of Discord-related news, though not a particularly interesting one: Fimfiction changed how cover images work, and I figured I may as well comply with the new restrictions. Ta-daaaah, look at Apple of Discord's beetle-ful new physical book-style front drawing:
The font choice could use work, but the image adapted surprisingly well to a vertical format. However, I can definitely imagine that not being the case for others... It's difficult to fit more than about two characters (especially quadrupeds!) comfortably in a 2:3 aspect ratio without having them disappear into obscurity when it's scaled down, and group shots are right out. Ah, well, we'll see how things go. I'm pretty sure I can take whatever knighty throws at me.
I would also like to dedicate a paragraph to the latest episode, "Make New Friends but Keep Discord", because it was amazing. Definitely a highlight of the season. I realize, of course, that the premise of Apple of Discord is based on Discord turning out to not actually have any good in him, but my actual thoughts on the matter are that "reformed, but not that reformed" Discord is just as awesome as any Discord, which is to say, awesome enough to be one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. I don't know how popular this opinion of mine is, but I wish his "learning the ropes" arc could go on forever, and if you ask me, all is well in the land of Season 5. But you are probably not too interested in being subjected to my opinions on semi-random topics just because you happen to be tracking my story, so I will cut this review short.
Well, there is one more thing. Discord got turned to stone twice and then burned by Maud Pie? I've found his secret weakness, everyone. Rocks. That's how Apple of Discord's gonna end: Applejack gets killed by a rock. Whoops! Spoilers! No, wait, I mean... Whoops! Silly jokes! I'm not supposed to be doing those. Somebody get the Colonel from Monty Python in here.
Anyway, I'll take that as indication that I should end this blog post before I begin to show signs of mental illness. Ta-ta!
Yay, new chapters incoming!
I like to see Discord "learning the ropes" as well. Also, the part about rocks you wrote made me laugh. Applejack is far related to the Pie family, right? She is going to ask them if she can hide in a remote rock field where she can't hurt any pony, driving herself to her ruin?
