Groups... · 9:25pm Apr 18th, 2015
Okay, I'm somewhat new to FF still and have yet to figure out entirely how groups work. For I believe it's weird for other people to be able and add my stories to them. For example; My story Hooves of Ice has been added into the collection of stories of a group called Crossover Central. I'm relatively fine with that. I just don't get it. My story Hooves of Ice is by my standards alone not a crossover, but I'm not complaining about the attention. What makes the little OCD I have is that the group has a folder for Frozen crossovers... mine is not in there... WTF was I thinking there? Jack Frost isn't from Frozen!
I mean, what is the point in adding it to the group if you're not going to do your job properly and add it into the right folder? I just want to bring such things into light. Thank you.
Now then that I got that out of my system I want to say that the groups system could be set up a little bit better, FF could for example implement a system that asks the writer in case they want their story to be added to a group when someone tries to add their story. I just wouldn't like to one day wake up and have my story in a group called "These stories are bad, and you should feel bad." or something, you know?
This has been a rather large issue for a few select stories such as Tirek Gets a Righteous Beatdown, and no, it's not very fair. Within the first week, his story was added to so many different groups that didn't fit. I believe, scrawling across the group list long ago, he was added to at least 5 different clop groups and at least 20 different groups that had nothing to do with the story like the game crossover group. Heck, some of them still have the story in their group and never got rid of it.
Anyone can add the story but if the story needs to be removed from the group, the author would normally have to contact each admin from each group to get it taken down. This is relying on the fact the admin will actually take it down/actually respond, which isn't very reliable.
This is a very extreme case though and doing this is against the rules. I believe one group was taken down for, apparently, instigating it. There's very little risk of it happening to anyone so long as the admins of the site keep up the enforcement.
As for the issue of having your story out of place, you would likely have to ask the admin to move it over or convince the one who put it there to remove the story from the group and put it back into the right place. Any story that someone added should have a garbage can next to the title of the story that was added that only they can see. Ultimately, I believe it'd be far easier to contact the admin; it should only be a couple clicks and it's fixed. So long as the admin agrees to do it though...
Edit: I looked at the group and it's put in a general movie category. While there are subcategories, none of it fits at the moment, so it is currently in its proper place. A quick message to the admin to add a Rise of The Guardians folder could still be done.
2995005 but honestly I thought his story was a crossover with rise of the guardians which stared the character Jack Frost.
2995528 In all honesty I didn't read the story myself, my brother did, but I'm just trying my best to be helpful. The summary sounds like it's Jack from Rise of the Guardians, with the whole being invisible to the world but still able to interact through snow thing. At least, it doesn't sound like Frozen...
2995569 Maybe he got the names mixed up that's happened to me multiple times with guardians of the galaxy and rise of the guardians.
2995944 I'm a fucking dumb ass, now feel really bad. But thanks for bringing this to my attention. Also, I really should have seen myself making a mistake like that at 3am...
2996177 It's all right we all make mistakes.
