I'M PANCAKE! I mean...MissKoi Reviews "Castle Sweet Castle" · 5:48pm Apr 11th, 2015

It's fair to say that there's was some major hype for this episode, and I was one of the hyped pony fans. From the sneak peeks to the first reveal of the synopsis before the Season 5 premier, it looked like "Castle Sweet Castle" was going to be a great episode. Did it meet with my hype? Did I think it was a great episode?

Well...there were parts of it that was a great episode. Here, let me explain.

It's not a bad episode by any means. On the contrary, it's a very sweet episode with a great moral. I think the true highlights of this episode were the moral and how it was presented, it's tone, the episode ending, the humor, and the song. Let's talk about the good first.

This episode fits into the down to earth and humble theme of the new season so far, along with the slice of life mentality to solve the problems at hoof. And the moral truly need that kind of approach because the lesson about how to deal with living in a home and now to move on from your old home. My Little Pony always does a great job in fitting amazing moral within the tone of their show, and this episode truly shines in this department. Not only that, My Little Pony always has a way making relatable morals shine, just like this one. Even though I never had a hard time adjusting to new houses when I moved a lot as a kid, I appreciated the show tackling an issue that's never really addressed in cartoons. Well at least, an issue not properly addressed anyway. I liked how Twilight tried to stay strong in the face of her own fears and weakness about her new home. It's show how strong yet vulnerable of a characters she is, and it shows how much she has grown up but also how's still growing at the same time.

Just like the season premier, the humor was top notch in this episode. Not as funny as the season premier, but still humorous nonetheless. I think the funniest part of the episode is when Bulk Biceps comes barging in as a salon employee:rainbowlaugh: Oh my goodness! I so wasn't expecting that and I loved it so much!:twilightsheepish:

I also want to point out that the Mane 5's first redecoration wasn't bad. I thought it was so cute:rainbowkiss: Sure it had a lot of stuff, but it was cute because each of the Mane 5 put a piece of themselves into her home and I think Twilight would have loved that because it reminded her of her friends:twilightsmile: And that's all she wanted out of her castle:heart: So, Mane 5...you guys are too humble of your fabulous work. :yay: And Spike...shut your mouth:trixieshiftleft:

And the ending:heart: OMG, let's talk about the ending:rainbowkiss: It was so beautiful yet so cute, I DAWWW through the entire thing! The chandelier is so gorgeous and so significant, I don't blame Twilight for crying, it was the best gift ever:heart: I can't wait to see the other rooms in the castle, I want to see the other additions that the others put in:raritystarry:

But the best part of the episode, in my opinion, was the song and it's reprise. From the moment I first saw the sneak peek of it...I knew that I loved it.:raritystarry: I've singing this song around the house and I'll probably be singing this song till next Saturday. Good job Daniel Ingram for a simply lovely yet catchy song:twilightsmile: Great job to the animators on creating appropriate sequences for this song and it's reprise. twilightsmile: (You know what's weird:rainbowhuh:? At first, I didn't think the "Our Little Town" song from the premier wasn't a catchy song. Yet...I've been singing it all week:applejackconfused: It's Starlight and the equal sign ponies! They have taken over my mind!:pinkiegasp: Ah! It's still not as good of a villain song as "This Day Aria" but it still works:raritywink:)

Okay, let's talk about the "not so great". I think the biggest downfall of the episode was it's pacing. I know slice of life episodes usually have a slower pace but, I felt like it was too slow in this episode. There were parts where they expanded upon too much, but there were parts where they rushed it. I think the source of the pacing lies in the shifting focus between Twilight & Spike and The Mane 5. The writers couldn't decide who to focus on more or less. I think they should have focused on Twilight more, and Mane 5 less. So that way, their little surprise at the end is more of a surprise for the audience.

Another thing I had a problem with is the portrayal of Pinkie Pie. She kept switching back and forth from great characterization to not so great characterization, and it was really annoying. Especially when comparing her to her characterization in the season premier because Pinkie Pie in "The Cutie Map" was amazing. I mean, I appreciated the fact that Pinkie Pie kept apologizing for her mistakes and errors in the episode but still:applejackunsure: I also didn't like it when they made Rarity indecisive which stuff she had to throw out in the middle of the episode. She whined that everything is her favorite. As a person who likes to decorate, it's hard to take out one piece of the room set up because it messes with the overall look of the room. It usually means you have to start over and create a new look. But still...they could have portrayed her better in that moment because it made her look a bad guy:applejackunsure

Overall, I give this episode 7.5 hearts out of ten! Congrats "Castle Sweet Castle"!
