Hello to Fimfiction! · 5:10am Mar 18th, 2015

Hi all! This is just a little introductory piece about who I am and what I'm here for.

At the time of writing this, I'm a Master's student for Marriage and Family Counseling, or MFT. In undergrad, I used to be an Honors English nerd, and tried my hand at writing fiction a couple of times. I had started both small and large projects alike, but nothing ever ultimately panned out. No one work or another was completed, and I often found myself pouring my own feelings or experiences into the characters I created. That would have been fine for maybe one go-round, but I was trying to create new and original worlds. It simply wasn't my forte.

Then, a couple years later, I discovered MLP: FiM and fell in love with both the show and the fandom. Having been an anime person most of my life, it was nice to pick up on something that was both light-hearted and not grounded specifically in Japanese culture. After a bit, I tried my hand at writing some fan-fiction on my own time and created a couple of small pieces. And that was the big deal to me -- I completed them, just the way I wanted them.

After undergrad, I found that writing wasn't really my thing -- I neither enjoyed the work I had done in Honors, nor did I like the pressure that built within me when I tried writing elaborate original worlds. While the projects and assignments themselves had been fun, I was never satisfied with my work. I had the skills, and I had the grades, but not the outlet.

Who would have thought writing fan-fiction would end up giving me the most pleasure? :derpytongue2:

This is to say that writing is not a big deal to me. I neither am interested in investing a lot of my time or effort into the work I produce, nor am I interested in delving deeply into the fan-fiction world -- at least not yet. However, what material I do produce for fun, I want to produce accurately and with quality. Since this is fan-fiction, I'm aware that remaining faithful to canon where applicable is important, and accurate character depictions are even more critical. So with that said, if at any point you notice a flaw or three in any of my works, please feel free to leave a comment with constructive criticism! I'm definitely not here to litter the site with garbage.

Right now, Nighttide Star is my big project. It's sort of my "proving grounds" for getting my feet formally wet in FiM fan-fiction, while fulfilling some of my latent desires to create an original character and world. While I intend to finish it, it's not imperative that I do so. I'm actually more interested in writing shorter works based a little off of my professional field, which I'm currently doing at the time of writing this. They're all written for fun and recreation -- some may be jovial, some may be dark. And who knows, I might completely turn back in the next week or two.

But, MLP: FiM is definitely a big deal to me right now, and I'm having fun doing what I'm doing. It's been a long time since I enjoyed writing, and I'm hoping that I might be able to spread a few smiles and tears along the way.

-- If you took the time to read this, thanks, and hope you have a wonderful Rainbow-filled day! :rainbowlaugh:
