    New Chapter Imminent.

    Hey folks.

Sorry there hasn't been an update in a while. I was aiming for a November release of the new chapter, but it kind of spun into... well, you'll see.

Anywho, expect to see the next chapter of A Man out of Place by 12:00 AM Monday morning, Eastern Standard Time at the latest. Earlier, depending on when my proofreader gets a chance to look it over.

How NOT to shop for birthday presents...

So, my mother's birthday is coming up, and I figured, "Hey, Barnes & Noble just sent me some holiday coupons, plus I've still got a few bucks left on a gift card, what the heck-- I'll get my mom some books!"

I found a nice card and a couple of books for my mom, including Murder on the Orient Express by the Queen of Mystery herself, Agatha Christie, but...

...Twilight Sparkle is afraid of quesadillas...?

    Twilight Sparkle.

    Is afraid.

    Of quesadillas.

I... I must write a story about this.

A Man out of Place: Appendix (Update 12/19/15) · 3:55pm Feb 28th, 2015

Here, you'll find the side info that isn't entirely essential to the story; bits of world-building or fun-facts.

--To start, John "Jack" Chambers isn't my real name, and this isn't a self-insert. Jack is based off of me somewhat (write what you know, right?), but the name was just something I thought up.

--There was a man named John Chambers, who worked as a make-up artist on the original Star Trek tv series. He's actually the one who made Spock's pointy ears. Cool, huh?

--Jack comes from a darker, lonelier version of Earth where the cartoon My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic doesn't exist. Sad, I know. If it did exist, he would totally be a brony.

--Jack's top three fictional heroes (in case they never get mentioned in-story) are Batman, Spider-Man, and Harry Dresden.

--This story takes place before season 1, so unfortunately no Luna... Which is a shame. She's my favorite.

--I am considering the IDW comics and Equestria Girls as canon, and all related plot points are part of the universe. You may even be able to see one or two already. Maybe. Or maybe not. I'll never tell~ *insert manic grin here*

--Some references to other fics or headcanons may appear in my story as homages or more, if they don't conflict with the rest of the plot.

--I DO have sequels in my head, but I'll say nothing about them yet. It's far too early for things like that.

--(Chapter 5) Spiffy the butler is a reference to Sweetie's Mansion by Moon Shooter, a Luigi's Mansion crossover with elements similar to the Silent Hill series.

--(Chapter 5) Lieutenant Flow Hammer is a reference to callsign "Foehammer", a Flight Lieutenant from Halo: Combat Evolved. This is in turn a reference to Gandalf's sword Glamdring, whose name is translated literally into the "Foe Hammer".

--(Chapter 5) The phrase "like some sort of Doctor Ninja" is a reference to the Doctor McNinja, a webcomic that's definitely worth checking out.

--(Chapter 5) Mr. Chair the wheelchair wasn't intended to be a PewDiePie reference, but damn if isn't starting to turn into one.

--(Chapter 5) Aprés vous is French for "after you", not to be confused with Entrez vous- the grammatically incorrect way of saying "come in", or Entrée: vous- which can translate as "Today's special: you".

--(Chapter 7) Sacramentum is a Latin word meaning not only "oath", but also "mystery" and, strangely enough, "deposit". It refers to the "oath" that Jack makes at the end of the chapter, the "mystery" in Twilight's aura, and if you stretch it, the "deposit" of time and effort that Celestia's made for her super secret plan that anyone who watched the first episode can figure out.

--(Chapter 7) I couldn't type the phrase "played me like a damn fiddle" without yelling that one line from Ground Zeroes. You know the one.

--(Chapter 8) I was not in the least bit exaggerating about what it's like to be a cashier. In fact, a few days after I wrote the hundred-dollar bill scene, that exact thing happened to me almost word for word.

--(Chapter 8) I put Dr. Facilier in my story. I regret nothing.

--(Chapter 8) The descriptions of the Tarot cards are based off of the Rider-Waite Tarot deck, slightly modified.

--(Chapter 8) Subconsciously, I turned Fragment and Flow's descriptions into double Castlevania references. Their coat colors (red and green) are the most common colors in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, and their mane's highlights (blue and orange) are the most common colors in the original Castlevania.

Have any questions? Ask me, and as long as it doesn't spoil anything, I might leave my answer here! :pinkiehappy:
