I am very sorry for the long hiatus on both my stories as well as my not helping my wife work on hers. I don't want to go too much into it, but I do have some problems with depression and we have been having some family problems lately. I don't want to get into what happened, but it isn't between my wife and me, but it is still enough to cause us both a lot of grief.

That's basically why, where Star Swirl knowing the Princesses (and especially Celestia) is concerned, I mainly go by the stuff in the show, especially the Hearth's Warming episode from Season 2, for both canon, and my headcanon, stuff where MLP continuity is concerned, rather than the comics (which I do like, and plan on using here and there).

Chiming in a bit late here, but it's worth considering the information in "The Journal of the Two Sisters" by show writer Amy Keating Rogers.
In that, following the founding of Equestria, Starswirl leads Clover, Smart Cookie and Pansy to the young Alicorns Celestia and Luna. They ask the alicorns to become the figureheads of their new nation, as embodiments of all three pony races. Celestia and Luna agree, however they only want the title of Princess and to stand as protectors of the nation, and do not want to displace current rulers like Princess Platinum and her father as the actual rulers. Starswirl stays on as a mentor to the young alicorns, while studying time magic (and apparently making trips to the future.). He introduces them to the tree of Harmony, and they ask about the third Cutie Mark on it (Twilight's), but while they suspect he knows who it represents, he refuses to say anything.
So Starswirl was a time traveler (and will probably show up in the show or movie eventually). So really it's more than possible that he and Discord intersected at some point.
2828231 Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I didn't see this post until I was going back and checking my blog. I would love to see Starswirl actually show up in the show if he isn't Discord, but there are a lot of good points pointing to the fact that he is while at the same time it might be a case of some people seeing one thing based on facts while others see it another way. Either way, if he is or isn't, it's still a great idea thinking up ways to explain why he is or isn't Discord. The information you gave though will help a lot with suture chapters as I know about Clover but not Cookie or Pansy so that will help. Thank you very much.
