Contest project, day thirteen: The Trixie character. · 2:54am Feb 14th, 2015

Well, I finished the first chapter, which will serve as a prologue to establish the main character and the main setting. I'll take the day to reflect on what kind of characters I'm using here.

Trixie/Deadshot/Trickshot?

Damn, I love that image.

Okay, I think that there's confusion out there on what I'm doing with Trixie here. Although I'm more inclined into making heroic or at least full moral character for the lead role, I realized that I've never tried with the opposite end. Now, this doesn't mean that Trixie will be a villain protagonist, but she won't be a Mare-Do-Well either.

The intention here is to show that Trixie is not really uncomfortable with the idea of becoming a hired gun and it's even okay with it as long as it helps her to pay the bills and eat three times a day.

Since this is a fusion fic, this means that a little of Floyd Lawton (Deadshot) WILL be part of her personality.

I think the point where characterization reaches its establishing moment is the scene after the club's shooting. After all is said and done, she's more impacted over her new found aim but doesn't even flinch at the thought she just killed three ponies. This serves to begin showing that Trixie may have one or two problems of apathy.

In a sense, the bullets work for Trixie like the Alicorn Amulet; something to use in order to have the control over her own life.

When it comes to moral ground, Trixie is still a pony of principles. Not in the vein of "take a mask and clean the city" but more like "I only shoot ponies because I got paid, nothing personal". My headcanon for this story is that Trixie just wants to live in peace, have a job, own a house and get the feeling of stability around her. But, to sustain that, she has to kill to get the money first.

I would like to think that Trixie sees her actual situation more like a job than a life choice.

Pretty much like The Sniper of Team Fortress 2 or Jason Statham in The Transporter, Trixie views the hitmare thing as a way to survive in a world that already made a point of not giving her a second chance in anything else.

Associated Tropes (because that's how my mind works by this point)
Absent Parents: She never knew them and only knows about her mother because she was famous before dying.
Adaptational Badass: My personal canon is that Trixie can be BADASS! if she needs to.
Anti-Hero: She’s not the brightest of them all, but she wouldn’t kick a dog either.
Artistic License – Gun Safety: Although she still plays the professional angle, it’s very likely that she’ll use the gun as a way to tell Sonata to shut up.
Attack Its Weak Point: Never waste a bullet, always aim for the most direct point.
Badass Boast: Come on guys, she’s still Trixie.
Badass Normal: No Twilight’s level of magic, not as strong as Applejack and not even close as fast as Rainbow Dash. Still more dangerous than any of the previous.
Bi the Way: Why not?
Combat Pragmatist: “I kill pones for a living, I don’t care for Fair Play by this point.”
Cool Mask: The one from the comics, featureless sans the aiming device.
Deadpan Snarker: “I kill ponies for a living and still have the moral ground to call you amoral.”
Death Seeker: She doesn’t actively want to die, but if it happens, she will make it spectacular at least.
Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She won’t admit it, but she actually cares about Sonata.
Even Evil Has Standards: There are still some kinds of jobs she wouldn’t take.
Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: She expects to die by bullets before having a chance to contract cancer.
Insistent Terminology: They’re not victims of murder, they’re targets.
Lack of Empathy: Even she’s surprised how little she cares about her ‘targets’.
Morality Pet: Sonata Dusk is THE reason of why Trixie still gives a f*ck about anything.
Names to Run Away From Really Fast: If I end up keeping Deadshot over Trickshot.
Odd Friendship: Lives with what’s basically an evil version of Pinkie Pie.
Only in It for the Money: She's not really sadistic or anything, he just wants money.
Only Sane Man: In contrast with Sonata. She believes herself to be the only mare that is not “hypnotized by all that love and tolerance crap”.
Super Wrist Gadget: The comic’s trademark weapons, which are automatic and silenced.
Talk To The Gun: Tuco said it before "if you're gonna shoot, shoot. Don't talk."

Well, that's what I got for now. Tomorrow I'll dig into Sonata's character and backstory.

I dig everything you're doing with Trixie except the Bi the way trope.

You're a troper? Sweet! Love what you're doing so far. Keep up the good work!

It sounds like it's going well. Can't say the same for me though. But enough about me, let's talk about you. I especially like how Trixie is "I just want it for the job" type of character. I feel like the role is perfect for Trixie and it shows in the writing. Maybe later on she might get hired to kill Twilight and she would have to deal with the decision of killing her or not. But I digress. Anyways good luck!

Interesting interpretation.

good work , it seems a bit different though from how i've seen you writting heroes but good

First of all, I would like to take my time to thank you guys for all the support and help on this. I deeply appreciate this and, wherever I win or lose the contest, I know I must thank you for all of this (damn you Cameron and your f*cking Titanic movie making me go sentimental).

Well, I don't want to ruin any surprise, but I'll show you one of the most iconic images from the source material on Deadshot:

Make your bets

Yeah, I know how it may looks, but I think i should explain myself here. The plotpoint of Trixie's character is that she doesn't care about anything anymore, so sex is no more relevant of the morning coffee (and even with coffee sh'es more selective). In other words, Trixie sees sex as only a way of relief, nothing else, so she doesn't care who is in the bed as long as she's got what she wants.

Everyone is a troper in the internet, eventually, it's just a matter of time. Glad you liked it.

I like to think that Trixie only takes hits for ponies who had it coming. Not because she's a good pony, but because she's genre savvy enough to know that killing an innocent would put her head on Celestia's, Luna's and everyone else's radars (more if it's Twilight).
Trixie: The Princess already want me in for murder, that last thing I need is to make it personal for them.

Well, I'm trying to get outside of a few boxes here. For starters, this is my first time writing a character with a gray-gray morality.

2795626
Yeah! That's the point here. Since this is my first contest, I decided to get the hell out of my comfort zone. Not only in the textual sense, but also in the meta. First person narrator, present tense, real time flashbacks (the first one was during a walk and the other during a shower).

2796091 It can be highly rewarding to push yourself outside your own comfort zone. It can teach you a lot. Of course, it's not easy.

It can teach you a lot.

*clenches fists, adjust his belt, crack bones that should NOT do that sound and gives the screen the mother of all Kubrick's Stares*

I'm listening.
