I watched this video and started thinking too much, and somehow it turned into pondering my skype behaviour. So now I'm making a list because I like lists and I like over-analyzing everything 
How to Interpret Jadeile's Attempts at Communication via Skype
1. Online Status
1.1. Online
A) I'm actually here, feel free to talk to me!
1.2. Offline
A) I'm not here. No really, I'm probably sleeping or having a life away from the computer.
B) If I'm offline even during the time when I'm usually online, I'm probably playing Pokémon or reading a book and can't stop because I'm having too much fun and decide that the internet can handle one night without me. Or I'm feeling antisocial. Or I have to wake up early tomorrow and I'm sleeping.
C) If I'm offline for many days in a row I'm probably sick. Or visiting my sister, but that one I usually mention somewhere, so you'd likely know about it if you paid attention.
D) There's an extremely slim chance that I'm being a ninja. But in that case I honestly don't want to talk to anyone, I just creepily want to know who are around even if I won't talk to them.
TL;DR: No use talking to me, unless your goal is to just have me see it whenever I log in next time.
1.3. Away
A) I'm AFK, there's no use talking to me, at least if you're expecting an answer.
B) If I log out after a long period of Away, then whatever made me go AFK is taking longer than I anticipated and my computer goes to sleep on its own.
TL;DR: No use talking to me, unless your goal is to just have me see it whenever I come back.
1.4. Do Not Disturb
A) I'm busy doing something and you shouldn't talk to me. Unless of course it's something really important.
B) I only want to talk to one person in particular so I'm trying to keep everyone else away.
C) I'm avoiding one person in particular but I promised someone else that I'd talk to them today so I need to be around for them.
TL;DR: Don't. Talk. To. Me.
2. Conversation Initiating
2.1. Doesn't initiate conversations
A) I'm just shy, it's not about you. I might even be looking at your icon and pining and wishing you would talk to me. No really, it's rare that I initiate conversations with anyone, even if you're my BFF.
B) I won't remove you from my flist until you remove me (unless I start to hate you), cos I'm willing to wait forever for you to talk to me again, if you ever feel the inclination to do so.
2.2. Initiates conversation
A) I have something in particular to discuss with you.
B) I'm super excited or angry or distressed about something and I want to talk to someone about it right this instant and I pick you as my victim!
C) I'm almost certain you're truly online and not AFK. I'm in a very good mood and feeling brave. And I like you a lot.
D) If you're my skype RP partner: I had tons of fun the last time we played so now I can't wait to play some more and I hope that by talking to you instead of waiting I speed up the process and we get to RP as much as possible tonight!

A) Something is wrong! It could be you, or it could be something else.

4. How Are You -answers
4.1. I'm fine, blablabla
A) I'm fine, as in not bad but probably not particularly excited either.
B) Standard answer. If the blablabla is short, then it means that today had been a regular old day.
4.2. I'm okay, blablabla
A) I'm trying to use something other than “fine” for once.
B) I'm slightly less than fine, but nothing to worry about. No use asking for details, it's probably just random blah-ness.
4.3. I'm slightly bored, blablabla
A) I'm actually more than slightly bored, I just like to use the word 'slightly'.
B) Your cue to give me links to funny or cool youtube videos.
C) Also your cue to grab a random topic and see if you can make me talkative. You probably have my complete attention.
4.4. Suffering a bit. Blablabla.
A) Lady problems. Don't grab the bait unless you want nasty details.
B) If you're a fellow lady, I might elaborate without asking.
4.5. I need a distraction.
A) Something is very wrong. I'm probably hysterical or trying to calm down from being furious. Sadness is also an option.
B) Don't ask. Just give me something to take my mind off of it. A youtube video, a mini-game, a bunch of pictures, anything works.
C) Once I'm better, you may ask.

A) I acknowledge that you tried to make a funny, but I'm not actually laughing or amused.
B) I might be sarcastically amused. At least if include this in something I said myself.

B) I might even be smiling or chuckling a little.
C) I amuse myself, but you're not obligated to find this funny.

C) “Fine” when it actually means “Not fine” is the wrong answer. I'm not American (excuse me, I'm generalizing), so I'm actually interested in hearing how you are honestly doing instead of just saying this out of politeness but with no interest in hearing the answer.
6.2. Oh?
A) Elaborate.
6.3. *insert a word you just used*?
A) I don't understand what this word means in this context, please explain it to me.
B) This word is unfamiliar to me and apparently google translator doesn't know it either (it's probably horribly mangled), please explain or spellcheck it for me.
6.4. Yay~
A) You just announced that you returned and I'm acknowledging it.
B) You said something positive but I don't have much to say about it. However, here's an acknowledgement so you know I saw it.
6.5. Kay/Kay~
A) I acknowledge/accept what you just said.
6.6. Interesting
A) I don't know what to say, so I'll just use this filler word to let you know I'm still listening. Because some people take my preferred method of just staying silent as their cue to let the conversation drop.
B) This is actually mildly interesting.

A) I like you. If I don't, I won't say this, even if you say it first; I'll just say something like “Aww, thank you” or “You're so sweet!” or some other way to dodge the bullet and avoid returning the favour.
