Here's the set up:
Screwball is Diamond Tiara's mother.
The insanity is a hereditary trait.
Diamond Tiara knows, with absolute certainty, that the same thing will happen to her one day. Medical science & magic are not going to find a cure within her lifetime. Maybe in her 20s, maybe in her 40s, some day Tiara will lose her mind.
She saw her mother slip away, until she didn't even recognize her anymore.
She's seen how it's ground down her father.
She's angry at life, genetics, her family. She's scared and helpless and depressed. She lashes out because she's broken and she knows it and who cares if the CMC don't have their cutie marks yet? They have their whole lives to find themselves, while Tiara is going to just disappear one day.
Diamond Tiara was a smart baby.
She's a clever filly.
She'll grow up into babbling, drooling mare.
Does a story like that already exist, or does it need to be written?
I've already got a great bit about how brittle diamonds are and how delicate her tiara actually is.
I've seen stories about Diamond and Screwball's relationship as mother and daughter to various degrees, but I can say I've never seen this before. That's a really interesting premise you've got there, I'd be eager to see you run with it.
