What Aspects and Classes mean to me · 1:20am Nov 15th, 2014
To start a little primer
airisolthewhitecoat asked me recently to destine each class and aspect. And because I have nothing better to do, I'll do just that. But I would like to say the beauty of words is that each person will inevitably interpret them differently, and this only becomes more pronounced the more complex our communication. As such the work of Andrew Hussie in Homestuck has taken on many interpretations which is part of the fun, and I'll share what I consider to be meaning to something completely meaningless
In Homestuck players are given a Class and Aspect; this is based on who they are as an individual. there have been twelve individual cannon Classes and Aspects, with a total of One-Hundred and Forty-Four possible cannon Player Titles this would cover a huge spectrum of possible character types, but I'm just going to go over each one generally. so to start...
Classes
a Player Class is based on how the individual behaves or influences others and are further divided into Active and Passive roles; Active Classes tend to go out and effect things personally, and Passive Classes will influence others or work behind the scenes to get things done. they also tend to have clear Active/Passive pairings.
Lord/Muse - embody their aspect. they are their aspect and their aspect is them.
Prince/Bard - this pairing has been explained in cannon. they use their aspect to destroy it else where
Thief/Rogue - Remove their aspect but don't eliminate it they'll either take it for themselves like a thief, or for others like the Rogue Robin Hood
Knight/Page - Command their aspect. like a general leading armies, Knights/Pages lead their aspect to accomplish their goals
Maid/Heir - Directed their aspect. similar to the Knight/Page classes, but where Knight/Page's aspect is submissive to them , a Maid/Heir will cooperate with their aspect.
Mage/Seer - Know their aspect. Knowledge is power and a Mage/Seer takes advantage of understanding the ins and outs when dealing with their aspect.
Witch/Sylph - the "quote" "unquote" magical girl, primarily creates their aspect. on the opposite end of the spectrum with the Prince/Bard.
Keep in mind that a class is more a path the player will take than any end result the player becomes so they will all inevitably bleed into each other as far as abilities or effects they have. the way a class acts is also heavily influenced by the player's...
Aspect
each one has a physical representation as well as a metaphysical one. they each are polarized with another aspect as well
Space - physically is space, distance, size, etc. and metaphysically is creation, or beginnings; and it's opposite is Time
Light - is things that are and all possibilities as well as the probability of such or Luck. opposite with Void
Hope - is more metaphysical to begin with but it's hopes and dreams but more importantly the realization of your vision. it is opposed by Rage
Heart - is the soul of a person or the self unalterable by perceptions. it's opposite is Mind
Breath - is the breeze, wind, the air in your lungs. but it also represents freedom and the journey like how the wind will flow around and continue on unhindered. Blood is it's reverse
Life - represents vitality and energy of the living. it also deals with growth and development, as well as the chaotic nature of such. Life is opposed by Doom
Time - again is physically time but metaphysically is destruction and the end of things. opposed with Space
Doom - is Death, injury, and infirmity, but also deals with order and sacrifice. Life acts against it
Blood - deals more with bonds, relation, relationships, and friendships. it's also the responsibility of those, unlike Breath which is more flighty.
Mind - is thoughts and ideas, it also deals with perception particularly with how one views others and them self. it's opposite is Heart
Rage - are negative emotions, not just anger, and how those emotions can blind and hinder. opposed with Hope.
Void - things that are not, physically the void outside of the Universe where the Horror Terrors dwell. but also dreams and the unknown. it's opposite being Light
Whelp that's that. there's still a lot more I could put down particularly citing points that would support my opinion but I don't wanna if your interested in seeing more Class/Aspect shenanigans check out some of these links.
