I think I have an idea of what to write for my first novel · 5:02am Nov 3rd, 2014
So, I have an idea for what I want to write for my National Novel Writing Month novel, here's the idea, it's Called "Light Bearer" and I would like to know what you all might think.
In a not too distant future, the world is being subjugated by an imperialist power ruled by an authoritarian system. They are dominating by war and money. They are oppressive and coldly mechanical, with no regard for people. The main character, is the daughter of a scientist who was killed in a special forces raid on his laboratory shortly before the wars started. His world changing invention was stolen and is now being used by the empire for their will and kept secret. Only his daughter knows anything about it. After wandering the streets, homeless for nearly a year, she is eventually brought into the "Lost" system (orphanage and foster system) and, through a series of events far beyond her control, she is brought to another country on the border of the fighting, once again homeless and lost in a foreign land, she wanders, seeing what devastation has been caused by her nation. Starving and dehydrated, she's found unconscious on the side of the road and taken to a run down hospital. The next day, a drone raid destroys the hospital, leaving her one of the few survivors. After wandering around the rubble of the building she is taken by a band of the nations fragmented military, she's beaten and interrogated by the soldier who are fighting her home land, certain she is a spy. After a time, she helps a small group of the soldiers infiltrate her country, knowing her fathers work would be used the wrong way, she vows to give his invention to the world, by stealing it from the rulers of the country.
Bare bones right now, but so far it actually looks pretty solid. Could work if you can pull it off, but it needs a lot of meat still.
2571106 thanks, it'll get a lot more fleshing out to do but I think I can clear 50k words with this one as soon as I have a better idea of how it will end. I hope to have the first 10k done in the next couple days
