In which retcons are discussed. (Seriously concerns Conflict of Interest, need opinions) · 1:13am Oct 23rd, 2014

I do not like retcons. Let me just get that out there now.

One of my favorite game series has been undergoing a retcon (Halo) for a while now, and it drives me nuts, personally. I am loathe to even consider them, and stars forbid I retcon anything of my own...

...But I actually have a valid reason—or so I like to think.

As you all know, Conflict of Interest features Flash Sentry. You know, this smug chump.

...Actually, wait. Correction: this smug chump:

Look at that canon shmuck, bein' all happy and crap.

Anyway, in Conflict of Interest, I half-planned out something for him to do. Basically, he was going to be an agent for Equestria's version of these guys:

In hindsight, this probably wasn't a great idea. Now, I hadn't commited fully to this by the time I published Conflict of Interest's first couple chapters, so that may not be obvious... In fact, all we know about Flash is that he's a "secret agent of some sort".

I'm planning on changing that.

It won't be obvious, mainly just a change of wardrobe, maybe a little dialogue modification, but I feel it'll be for the better, and it won't change anything story-wise. At least for now. The main reason for this is to give him an arc, make him an interesting character (Hasbro had two shots to do this, and failed) and finally, write a story about him later within the Sparkyverse.

What will this change be, you may ask? Well, I'll certainly elabourate on that in-story, but what will be immediately obvious is that now? He's the Sparkyverse's equivalent of this guy.

Those of you who know who this guy is probably just recoiled in instinctual fear. Those who don't... Well, I can't help ya much. I can only recommend playing Dishonored, which is a significant source of inspiration. But in the meantime...

 See you all on the 30th!

EDIT: Oh yeah, and also I'm replacing all the "In which a Trope is described" bits at the beginning of my chapters. They're stylistic, I love them, but everyone i show these stories to hates them for spoiling what's ahead. I'll be replacing them with fictional excerpts from fictional books, if that makes sense. Should provide some world-building. Not sure about the blog posts though.
