Kill la Kill (now that I finished it) · 8:48pm Oct 11th, 2014
I didn't pay this anime much attention when it first came out because I had been backed up to my ears in Anime and Western Shows, though I DID sneak a peek at Ryuko's second match with Sanegayama. Needless to say, it intrigued me, but I still had to work my way through my list, and it all finally paid off as I discovered it during my birthday month (that I mentioned in my last blog...all those weeks ago....cripes, I need to get off my lazy butt more >_<).
Kill la Kill is one of those animes that have an obscure series title until you actually start watching it and then everything clicks into place. And when I started watching it, I realized that it was the sort of series that I instantly fall in love with and fall in love I did, hoo-wee :D Senketsu himself reminded me of the Witchblade, and yes, a part of that constitutes to the stripperific, though I can't be the only one who thought that, right? ....RIGHT?
Anyway, the art was fantastic, the music made you want to jump out of your seat and dance, the fights reminded me a little of Angelic Layer, but that's a praise since I think that Angelic Layer is badass in itself, the music made you sing along (even if you didn't know all the words), and the drama threw you for loop after loop. And did I mention the music? I especially loved how they hid key plot points out in plain sight, so you had indirect foreshadowing to future events, which is something I haven't seen since the BONE comic (which I will speak of another day). Oh, and there was nudity. MALE nudity. Male nudity that thankfully covered up the parts that scar the retina of innocent virgin eyes. Not that I had a problem with the rest of their body parts, particularly after getting Sanegayama's naked bum shoved in my face: I mean...wow.
But, as enjoyable as Mr. Wild Monkey often bare body was, I had more of an interest in Houka Inumuta, who made me jump in my seat and act like a schoolgirl every time he came onscreen. And his Goku Uniform didn't help matters :3 And, of course, Guts the Pug made me want to cuddle him all day and night (I mean Guts, not...okay, 'know what? I'm not jumping into that pitfall; my foot's in my mouth enough as it is -_-).
This anime is also interesting to me in that it's one of the few I've seen that didn't have a concrete love interest for the main character that so frequently pops up. Now, don't get me wrong, Ryuko had a solid partnership with Senketsu and their bond gives the show its heart, though I dunno if they had anything romantic going on. And Mako is sort of more like a sister/best friend in my eyes than a girlfriend....and besides, I am currently onboard the U.S.S. Mako x Gamagoori, full steam ahead.
And, on that note, I recommend you take a looksee at Kill la Kill and Ponify the Student Council XD
