So, I watched Rainbow Rocks in crappy camrip, because UK cinemas does not have Rainbow Rocks until the end of October.

The good:
- SUNSET SHIMMER IS THE SEVENTH ELEMENT OF HARMONY! I was SQUEEing and clapping when she started transforming! SO AWESOME! What should be her element? Element of Redemption? Also, she was singing, YAY!
- SUPER RAINBOW ALICORN!
- Seaponies! Uhm... I mean... Sirens!
- Mane 6 in pajamas! SO CUTE!
- Cutie Mark Crusaders in their "We're the Cutie Mark Crusaders" outfit!
- Lots of new songs! (You can listen to the songs in proper quality here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRaDSq9GBdE)
- Starswirl the Bearded!
- Pinkie Pie is a genius! And she is cute! And she is funny! ("Oh look, someone's favorite pony got a lot of screen-time...")
- HANDS! (Lyra as a human <3 )
- Human BonBon is so cute!
- Vinyl actually mattered in the story!
- Derpy making music!
- Maud and Boulder!
- Octavia!
- The Dazzlings were actually a real threat! Their abilities looked cool!
- Human Mane 6 in Rainbow Power mode!
- Human Universe Conspiration Theory Twilight! (+ dog Spike)
The bad:
-The movie felt rushed.
-A lot of scenes were cut out, like how the mane 5 got their instruments. (Or maybe they weren't planned to be part of the movie?)
-Twilight creating a permanent portal was logical, but felt like an awfully convenient plot-device.
-Twilight didn't even think about informing Celestia before she left Equestria.
-No progression in Flash-Twilight relationship in any direction. Seriously, it feels like the writers are now afraid to continue what they started and only given Flash a few scenes just to satisfy the continuity. (Note: I'm not a fan of Flashlight, but I kinda expected at least something to happen to it.)
-Spike had like zero role.-When Twilight said "Pinkie, you are a genius!", Pinkie didn't answer "No, I'm not. I'm a chicken. Bwaaak!"
The ugly The things that might cause a lot of problems in the future and possible shitstorms in the fandom:
- The portal is now permanently open. Which means, Twilight can now see human Flash whenever she wants to. Also, now all fanfic writers will have to take the portal into consideration.
- The Dazzlings are left to run with an unguarded open portal.
- Sunset Shimmer is the seventh Element of Harmony.
Overall, 8/10, will watch it again when it will available in high quality.
Do you hear that sound? That sound is thousands of writers writing their shipfics with the Dazzlings (90% of them will be with Sonata).
All you have to do is watch the clip for the song, Battle Of The Bands, and wonder why theres anything But clop fic being written for the sirens. Sorry, Dazzlings. I mean, minor 5th devils chording bedroom eyes, Savilles girls that arent even human and possibly not even mortal that sing to affect emotions and them absorb them for sustenance?
Listened to the music tracks, love the pharty bass on the last one. If that was Vinyl Scratch, then she could easily say to get that sound she only needs three things. Her deck, her stack.. and her amiga.
And I bet so many of you think that Spanish for girlfreind.
Now, now, I'm going to have to correct you just like I did with someone else yesterday. The fandom has gotten awfully used to referring to the Mane Six AS the "Elements of Harmony", but this is a pretty bad habit. They are the BEARERS of the elements, and as Twilight said, the "spirits" of the Elements, which does seem to mean that they embody their element. However, that does not mean that Sunset Shimmer is "an Element". She's a unicorn, she's magical, and she's now able to use the magic of friendship just like the rest of those girls can. Just remember, though, that the Elements of Harmony are six specific magic items. There isn't a seventh one, and there's not likely to be one created because of this. The human Mane 6 didn't start to have magic until Twilight brought it to them, after all, which was even gone over in the movie. Equestrian Magic.
I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, I just have to be this time. :P
Did you notice Sunset Shimmer didn't get the Rainbowify treatment?
Possibly my favorite thing from this movie. Can't wait to see where this goes.
Right, all the shorts that got put out beforehand were all meant to be promotional material. I bet they will be on the blu-ray as extras. I love that Vinyl in the coffee shop from "Music to My Ears" was seen in the movie, though. :P
SUPER CONVENIENT. It was not even disguised in the slightest that this was something that was done just so she could go back to the human world. However, it's the only real solution that leaves the plot point of 30 moons intact, which is necessary to explain why Sunset Shimmer had to wait to come back and steal the crown in the first place.
You think Celestia didn't send that book to Twilight on purpose in the first place? I bet Celestia got the message from Sunset Shimmer and made sure that book got to Twilight ASAP.
No character development for Flash whatsoever, and the moments they had together were super forced feeling. If they aren't going to sincerely develop it, they should knock it off.
Well, he DID go get Vinyl at the end.
I don't think it's that big a problem. Did you notice that the portal had to have the book set in place above it, like a key, to open up that world? If anything, this portal Twilight has built could actually be an interesting plot device later on if they keep it around. What other objects could be set above it to create portals to elsewhere? We've already had alternate world stories in the comics, after all, and those were tons of fun.
Not if Twilight pulls out the "key".
She's not, as I explained above. She's just a unicorn, and we know she's powerful. Celestia had picked her out as a pupil before, remember, just like with Twilight. But there's no seventh Element of Harmony, there's only six magic items.

I personally call them "Spirits of Harmony" in my stories, but people seem to just refer to them as "Elements of Harmony", so I keep it like that outside of my stories. (I personally think it to be a bad thing too. Being a Spirit of an Element of Friendship sounds much cooler!)
In the end, it was because of Sunset Shimmer that they could activate their Super Rainbow Alicorn Thingie™. Sunset being a unicorn shouldn't matter, as unicorn magic does not work in the human world, so she definitely contributed with her friendship based magic; therefore one could argue that she was a Spirit of Harmony. Being a friend shouldn't be enough to activate the rainbow either, otherwise Spike could have activated the Element of Loyalty in Return of Harmony (Also his loyalty just towards Twilight is magnitudes higher than the sum of Rainbow Dash's loyalty, but that is another discussion...)
Actually, none of us is right. Pinkie Pie is the bearer of all six elements, she just wanted to help Sunset reintegrating, so she waited until Twilight conveniently dropped her the mic then asked Sunset's help which at that situation made zero sense, but hey, one does not question Pinkie's logic!

They all rainbowfied before her transformation, though. You could also argue that it was their sudden burst of magic that gave her the power to transform. Further, the rainbow magic beam thing shot up into the sky, and then her 7th color got added into the middle of it. All of her magic actions in the scene were secondary to the mane 6. She already had Equestrian magic within her from the start. She was originally from Equestria. In the end, it was her acceptance into their group that awoke her friendship magic ability. There could be all sorts of reasons, ranging from the fact that she wore the element of magic previously to the reasons I stated above, but it's pretty ambiguous.
Having a seventh "Element of Harmony" is a big leap, though. I think people are just taking it because... well, I can't honestly say why, actually.
The Elements of Harmony are things, physical things that exist. There are six ponies who embody the virtues they represent, and those are the ponies that can bear them. Previously, we had Luna and Celestia each bearing three, so they each represent 3 virtues I would assume. A seventh out of nowhere seems unlikely, though, unless the tree of harmony, which we haven't had a decent explanation of yet, somehow branched off and spat out another item.

What if actually the real mastermind behind the event was... Vinyl Scratch! She was the only one out of the Mane7 not affected by the Dazzlings. She said that it was because of her constantly listening to music, but what if she was actually more? She was there when she was needed, just at the last second, which is very suspicions. What if she was actually the real seventh Spirit of Harmony, waiting to be revealed, and hidden behind Sunset! Or what if Sunset is the seventh Spirit of Harmony and Vinyl is the eighth Spirit of Harmony, the Spirit of...
Oh dear, I think I will just go to sleep.
(On a serious note: Vinyl was really suspicious. )

Well, to get meta from in-canon explanations, I just despise the "more elements of harmony" type of stuff. Rubs me the wrong way, to be honest, so I admit I will likely come up with any explanation other than that to explain it away... not that I think the reasoning for it is all THAT convincing given what we know about how the elements work and their origins.
Also, I totally started writing a story about Pinkie Pie wanting to go meet the other Pinkie in the EQG world, and the story happens post-TCoL, so she wants to meet more Pinkies after having met all the ones in the dream worlds.
BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO MAKE THE STORY ABOUT BESIDES THAT.
But beyond random mischief... eh, maybe all I need in the end is random mischief, yes? :P
