finally, right? this recovery program totes works. it's not finished finding all the files so i can't recover everything yet
... buuuuuuut i've managed to at least recover chapter four right now. so, regardless of everything else, at least chapter four has been fully recovered. i've also recovered a few other works in progress, so minimal stuff has been lost and that's pretty boss. chapter four should be up sometime this weekend maybe depending on when i actually finish it.
that being said, there's a limited number of files i can actually recover this way (the trial only lets you recover ten and i've basically got one left) so there's still a lot of stuff that i can't get at. all the important stuff, at least, has been recovered, but tyheres a lot that is stuck in hard drive limbo for now. luckily, nothing that applies to y'all has been lost, so.
what recovery tool are you using? there are free ones like testdisk
(also maybe/please take this drive failure as an unfriendly reminder to make backups.
stuff tends to break at some point and trying to recover data is about 10 times the hassle of making weekly backups and quite a lot more expensive if you have to send the drive to a recovery center because the data can't be recovered using software.
just do it. you're gonna sleep way better)
2480039 something called easeus that was one of the first things to come up from a google search. i'll try that one out, but as of now everything important that hasnt been finished that would result in a significant loss of work has been recovered, so the rest is just icing on the cake. thanks for nthe advice though, friend!~
2480050 ah easeus....i think i know which one you're talking about...i used one of their tools for partitioning a while back. not a bad tool but it is shareware with limited functionality...and i hate that.
once you got everything you want to keep off of that faulty drive, try to get a reading of its smart values. if it shows up as good health, format the drive using the slower method (so it has to check every sector, might find some bad ones) and check the readings again. if it shows up as anything but good and you still have manufacturer warranty on it then send it in...otherwise, better don't use it again.
if it still shows up as 'good' after the slow format and you're unsure about its smart readings i can take a look at it (just send me a screenshot as pm or something)
