I don't often submit stories to EQD. Very infrequently, and when I do, the responses are always the same. Needs editing, get a proofreader, not enough character development, not enough depth, too short, things like that. Constructive criticism.
Not the case with Princess Derpy.
Princess Derpy was painstakingly put through the editing process, and shopped around to NUMEROUS pre-readers in preparation for excellence. Both of us who wrote it wanted it to be fantastic.
But apparently still not fantastic enough for EQD, who responded with the attempt simply with
"Thank you for submitting your story to Equestria Daily, but, unfortunately, I cannot recommend posting it. Due to the high volume of stories we receive on a daily basis, we cannot give specific feedback on why. Our Editor’s Omnibus contains a thorough list of the issues we look for in our reviews, and also contains resources for finding proofreaders and editors. Give it a look and ask the linked reviewing groups for help, as they will go a long way toward improving your writing!"
We worked really hard on the production process and were at least expecting SOMETHING. We expected rejection, yes, but with good reason. So apparently they couldn't find anything grammatically or substantially wrong with it, it just isn't going to be accepted because f*** you, we don't feel like it.
It's moments like this that really make me want to stop writing forever.

Hey man, who gives a shit what those snobs think. You're a great writer. That's all that matters. And if these stuck up jerks reject you like this, use that hatred, prove them wrong.
Yeah, we liked the story! That's all that matters. We love you.
We'll always love you... 
Um...speaking as one of those terrible individuals...we encourage folks to ask if they want feedback. We stopped handing it out without asking, partly due to people not listening and partly a lack of time.
Couple specific issues were the perspective felt jumpy and the view of Derpy seemed especially cruel.
That all said, I won't stop you from ranting and hating us if it makes you feel better.

2418569 First of all... awkward.
Secondly, HATE might be a bit strong... there wasn't hate so much as surprise, sadness and frustration. I've never managed to get anything on EQD before, and lately it seems like unless you know animation, which gets promoted without a second thought, there's just no chance for writing.
Thirdly... I always listen. That's how I improve.

I do really encourage you to email and ask for details on why your story was rejected.
As for not making it, I suggest recognizing EQD for what it is. A cool site, but not the be all end all for pony fic. There's some amazing promotional groups on here and even if you apply to none of them there's still tons of us that really love your writing.
Hope this helps ease the sting a little.
I submitted my story Lullaby to them, and the reasons why it was rejected were shit. Fuck them.
