Hey guys. Two serious posts in as many days. Sorry about that.
I want to talk to you all about this Purge thing that's been going around the US lately. This is particularly close to home for me because I live about half an hour away from Detriot, where one is rumored to be happening.
See, one of my best friends lives in the city itself, and she was over at my house tonight to watch a movie when her phone basically started exploding from Twitter notifications. People were taking about a Purge in Louisville tonight and another in Detriot tomorrow, as well as rumors of others in Jacksonville, Chicago, and Jeffersonville.
For those of you that don't know, the Purge is a movie that came out last year, with a sequel out now, where there are basically no laws applicable in a 12 hour period. So people feel free to murder, steal, rape, etc. whenever they please during this period with no consequences. And people have tried to do this in real life.
I've looked this up on news sources, and I've checked tumblr and Twitter, and so far nothing has been confirmed, but even the fact that people would conceptualize this sort of thing sickens me. What kind of messed up society do we live in where these kinds of rumors get started and thrive? My friend and I are sitting here terrified, not knowing if anything's real but desperately hoping it's not.
