Let's See Here... (Mild Rainbow Rocks Spoilers Ahoy!) · 10:16pm Oct 5th, 2014
A few days ago, I mentioned that I was going to go see Rainbow Rocks today with this girl and her little sister (I also managed to drag my own sister along). And OH BOY WAS IT AMAZING. I'll try to keep the following as general as possible if you haven't seen it but don't mind a few spoilers.
Remember this blog post I wrote when the first trailers popped up? Let's revisit that checklist, shall we?
1) Sunset/Twilight Duet. Check. It was like thirty seconds but it totally counts.
2) Kazumi Evans providing the speaking voice for Adagio Dazzle? Check.
3) Background pony-as-human speaking? Check.
4) More Flash Sentry. Check.
5) SUNSET LOVE. OHMYGOSH YES.
Cool! Everything that I hoped for actually happened! Maybe I should do one for season five, too. (Number one, Return to Golden Oaks Library... Are we still doing the whole #savetree thing?)
Now, for some general thoughts. I really, really liked this movie, in case you haven't inferred that already. Flash was adorably awkward, Sunset went through some serious self-evaluation that felt spot-on, and the nods to pop culture and the fans were, while almost overwhelming at times, not entirely unwelcome. I mean, Lyra, Bon Bon, Derpy, Vinyl Scratch, Octavia Melody, Bulk Biceps, and so many more cameos, inside jokes, and just flat-out fantastic writing.
And the songs. Wow. Daniel Ingram is a wizard. I actually liked the Dazzlings' songs better, but all of them were great.
One annoying thing, though, was that they didn't really say the villains' names. They just called them, "The Dazzlings" all the time (or called Sonata by her first name whenever she was being a ditz). If you hadn't been following the toyline or the spoilers on the Internet, you wouldn't have known their names. At all. I think Adagio Dazzle is called "Adagio" once, and Aria Blaze is never specifically named.
Also, there were a sad lack of previews at this movie. We walked in at 2:02 and the movie was in full swing. I'm pretty sure the parts that we missed were shown in the trailers online, though, because I didn't see some of those scenes.
I can definitely see how they're going to do a TV series after this, if that's still a thing. I squee'd so hard when Sunset sat down and I realized she was going to write "Dear Princess Twilight," (I was actually expecting it to be addressed to Celestia, but I suppose Twilight does make more sense, being the princess of Friendship and all.)
AND THIS PART. I LEGITIMATELY SHOUTED "OH MY GOD" WHEN THIS PART ROLLED AROUND AT THE END.
(I really hope this is followed through in the TV series.)
You'd better believe I've got tricks up my sleeve I'm going to get this when it comes out on DVD. I seriously loved this movie.
Oh, and I also managed to pull off a semi-decent (and discreet) Lyra cosplay, if anyone's interested. Please, don't all throw yourselves at my door. </sarcasm>
DID YOU SEE LYRA AND BONBON THOUGH.
HAVE I MENTIONED THAT I LOVED THIS MOVIE? So much. I think I'm already going to go on YouTube and watch it again.
Have any of you seen the movie yet? Do you plan to?
~Dizzy
I'm considering it, I haven't seen the first one so I should probably do that first
