Where the hell is S.H.I.E.L.D.?! · 9:27pm Jul 15th, 2014
I'd like to address something in one of my fanfics. I'm fairly certain no one actually, truly cares about what I'm going to be talking about and they completely forgot about my fanfic entirely, making this entire exercise moot, but I feel like I should still talk about it anyways.
In Les Cousines Dangerueuses, Applejack and Pinkie watch the previews before seeing the movie. During one of the previews for what was essentially their version of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, these lines of dialogue ensued:
Applejack moved her head towards Pinkie’s ear. “Hey Pinkie.”
Pinkie turned her attention towards Applejack.
“Yes?”
Applejack whispered into Pinkie’s ear. “Twilight told me about this movie. She went on for about 20 minutes about how the secret organization in that universe is useless.”
“Really? How so?”
“Apparently, when one of their top operatives got attacked by terrorists, they didn’t do squat.”
“Terrorists? Really?”
“Not just terrorists neither. The movie after that one followed another one of them heroes, but this time, aliens attacked the Crystal Empire near the end of the movie.”
Pinkie showed a puzzled expression. “And they still didn’t do anything?!”
“Apparently not. Whew, Ah tell you, Twilight could not stop ranting about that part.”
All of that was me criticizing S.H.I.E.L.D. for doing jack shit in Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. Considering that their job was to stop these kinds of things from happening, you could see why I was confused at S.H.I.E.L.D.'s lack of action. I mean, terrorists attacked Tony Stark! You'd think that they'd give him a hand with that. They didn't.
I could maybe have forgiven them for their lack of action, but then The Dark World came into theaters. No one in their right mind could possibly forgive the severe lack of S.H.I.E.L.D. when, I dunno, fucking aliens invade England!
All of that was my reason for being pissed at S.H.I.E.L.D. Now, you have to understand that this was before I saw The Winter Soldier. When I did see it, I realized that my entire argument was completely and utterly destroyed. Without spoiling too much, let's say that S.H.I.E.L.D. was a tad bit busy in that movie.
With all this, I'd like to say that I have no reason to mock S.H.I.E.L.D. anymore. Me being upset at them relied entirely on those two movies and then another one came in and explained why. There are probably other people that mock S.H.I.E.L.D. for completely different reasons than mine, but my reasons have completely fallen apart. Just like S.H.I.E.L.D.
