Run, John, run, the law commands, but gives me neither feet nor hands; better news the Gospel brings, it bids me fly and gives me wings. ~John Bunyan

    Update and another author chat

After a lot of hem and haw about how to do the next chapter, I am making some progress at last. Hoping to finish within the week, despite the Christmas holiday.

Most of the delay on this was personal matters keeping me focused elsewhere. The rest of the delay I've been struggling with is due to the kind of stuff about to happen.

It's going to get exciting quick.

After much thought, I'm making a big change to Protecting Harmony

I've been toying with the idea for ages, and never felt satisfied with where things are at now with the organization.

A type of blog post I never expected to make

    Hey all.

Someone I know recently lost their dad.

Not much to say that you couldn't guess. I know their money is tight and they're already dealing with a high risk of going homeless soon.

As I'm in a position to help, I'll personally be donating on top of this simple signal boost.

If you have something to spare to help pay for final expenses, it would be appreciated.

    PHB2C6 now up

Next chapter of Protecting Harmony: Rising Effort is up now. A little less than a month after the last one is a vast improvement, time-wise.

Bright Spark gets to show off a few hints of herself, and the modus operandi of the Disciples. Also giving Vojin more shit. I'm starting to enjoy beating on him... :trollestia:

    Rising Effort C5 up

Bloody took me longer than anticipated, as well as having to split the chapter in half because it went past 20k words. I draw a hard line on length there, so it worked out that I was able to break the chapter almost exactly in half. This is kind of why I so rarely say when a chapter will be coming. Of course, maybe setting myself some deadlines might be motivational now.

For anyone that decides to read Protecting Harmony, I highly encourage you to leave feedback. I haven't written stories in years and while I'm fairly confident in writing halfway decent sentences, the story is already over three times longer than anything I've ever written, considering I only wrote short stories previously. Feedback is helpful because different eyes can see things in a different way, sometimes finding errors or poor wording that I never notice. Granted, always use your brain when commenting, of course.

My story is coming out freeform. By that, I mean there is no outline, no established plan. I just write as I feel the story wants to be told. One big example, I wasn't actually thinking of getting my OC and Twilight romantically involved for a few more chapters, it just happened that way. This also means I write when the mood strikes me and stop when it leaves. Sometimes that might mean finishing a chapter over a weekend. Other times, I might not finish another for a month or more. A release schedule is nice but just not in the cards for this story.

With feedback though, suggestions are always welcome with some caveats. I'm not writing a clopfic. Bedroom scenes are part of the story, not the point of the story. I also will not being 'forming a herd' at any point. I may struggle to express the characters' personalities at times, but you could have your eyes plucked out and still see that forming a herd is utterly outside the culture of Equestria. *cough* Another point I'd like to express is that while I am going to include a number of real techniques drawn from Ying Jow Pai kung fu and magical practices such as Druidry, don't get picky about perfect accuracy. I can and will use artistic license at any point that makes better sense in the context of the story. There are some other things of course, but generally common sense should handle them. And by all means, if I accidentally contradict events within the story, I'd like to know. Whether in error or poorly explaining something intentionally conflicting, that's stuff I'd like to fix.

Also, I can be grumpy with those that leave their brains in a jar on their desk like a curio just to collect. Inane or blatantly bad comments will be ignored, discounted, or mocked. Bad english is one thing. Total stupidity is another. It's just how I am. *shrug*
