Taking a bit of a break...

    Hey everyone,

So I've decided, in light of the massive amounts of work and research that's been piled on me so I can finish my degree on time, I'm going to put my newer fanfic on hiatus.

    Reasons for the recent hiatus

Some of you may be wondering why I posted the prologue for my new fic and nothing else. I'd like to apologize for the rather long delay, I thought my schedule would allow me to write and publish with some regularity when I released the prologue.

A lot of you are going to be upset by this post, so I'm just going to treat this like ripping a bandaid off a wound.

I'm retiring from fanfic.

There, now that that's done with, onto my reasons.

I wanted to write and finish By Fear and Fire, I honestly, truly did. I had a fair number of ideas planned and a lot of headcanon I wanted to establish about certain characters' backgrounds and the origins of things I wrote about in Mind Over Might. But I honestly haven't had any inspiration to write for that story since I put up the prologue. And if you're a writer or artist of any kind, you know that you can't simply write something or force it without any inspiration. Well, you can, but you end up with utter garbage. So I decided that instead of trying to force inspiration to write something that wouldn't be worth it, I would focus my energies elsewhere. Now for the good news.

I am writing an original novel.

No it won't have anything to do with ponies, no it will not be posted here. It will however, be available as soon as I can get it published. I'm writing it slowly, and as inspiration comes. I am extremely motivated to finish it, and when I publish, I promise to post a link to it here so you can find it on amazon in hard copy form, or as an ebook. If you'd like a sneak peak, I can offer looks at a few pages of the chapters I've written thus far, but you'll need to privately message me since non-mlp related postings are not allowed on this site.

This book is a dystopian fantasy, it will be rather dark, and not quite appropriate for or targeted at children. Suffice to say my biggest influence as an author is George R.R. Martin, the writer of the book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, and the HBO drama, Game of Thrones.

There will be dragons.

If I get any responses to this, I may post updates about my writing of that book here. I have a working title for it, and if people are actually reading this, and someone comments about it, I'll reveal the name of my book, and possibly my estimated date of completion.

Signing off for now, it's been fun, people...

Good luck and goodbye!

2185026 I said that if someone comments, I'd reveal the working title and possibly the estimated date of completion. Congratulations Ziore, you did the thing!:pinkiehappy:

The working title of my novel is Instinct, and my estimated date of completion is mid-2015. I've written the prologue and about 3 chapters thus far, and have almost completely fleshed out the plot (heh...). :trollestia:

I'm at the stage of bringing it together and adding material, and developing and adding characters. I started writing this book about 2-3 months ago and progress is going quite smoothly, as I've had inspiration to write more almost every night.

Coincidentally, my girlfriend already drafted the cover art I'm going to have on the front cover of the book, and if I get a good number more comments, I might post it.

I'll still be actively hanging around the fimfic community and reading and commenting on other peoples' work. I haven't left, but I feel that I've made my contribution, and any further fanfiction work I can do would be rather forced. I had other ideas than the story I cancelled today, so there is a chance I may come out of fimfic retirement in the future, but I can't just leave people hanging on a story that I said I'd write and have no plans to. :/

That said, don't unfollow me if you're hoping I come back. Once I'm out of college, and my book is published, there's a decent chance I may need somewhere to channel my energy! My day job as a scientist will only engage half of my brain, the other half may need an outlet; so I'm probably not gone for good, just for the immediate-foreseeable future. :twilightsheepish:

Nooooooo... One of my favorite authors...gone? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!:raritycry:
That said, I understand. Doesn't stop me from being sad, though...:fluttercry:
Good luck, and I hope for a return! My the Sun and Moon ever guide you! /)
