The Band on Billboard 100 · 3:24pm May 19th, 2014
Out of curiosity, I checked to see how many songs a singer/band can get on the Top 10 at the same time.
I wanted to keep the story somewhat real in a fantasy setting. :-)
List of Billboard Hot 100 chart achievements and milestones
Some achievements I might use:
Most weeks at number one: 16 for Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men — "One Sweet Day" (1995–1996) =Give this to Sapphire Shores Can't have the band break all the records! Don't want them to be Mok (Those who have seen "Rock & Rule" will get the reference)
Most consecutive weeks in top ten after debuting in top ten: 21 weeks – Nicki Minaj — "Starships" (2012) = Which one do I pick for the band? Hmm, how about "Money (That's What I Want)"
Number-one debuts= Good Gravy! A whole lot of artists and/or songs I don't recognize. :-( Guess I have to brush up on my music history.
(Especially current stuff. What I get for not listening to the radio these days.)
Most top 10 singles: Madonna (38), Plus Elvis Presley (36)* (Pre-Hot 100 charts and Hot 100)
Most number-one singles in a calendar year: The Beatles (6) – "I Want to Hold Your Hand", "She Loves You", "Can't Buy Me Love", "Love Me Do", "A Hard Day's Night", "I Feel Fine", (1964)= The one I was sort of looking for.
Simultaneously occupying the top two positions: The Beatles: From February 22, 1964 until April 25, 1964 the Beatles held the top two positions, with various singles. In some of the weeks, the band held the top three or top four slots, the only act in chart history to do so. On April 4, 1964, The Beatles occupied the entire top five = Wow! I thought I would be pushing it with three for The Band.
I also decided to check the real world version to see how they did. Too much info to sort through.
The group was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1989. and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked them No. 50 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and in 2008, they received the Grammy's Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2004, "The Weight" was ranked the 41st best song of all time in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list. =Ideas for a Postscript.
The billboard Hot 100 is awesome

That it is!
Like everything else, its not perfect. There is some problems; Mainly with how record sales are recorded. (Pun intended).
There is also Payola; But, nothing as big as in the 1950s. Oh, another idea for the story.
