First Thoughts on "Twilight's Kingdom, Parts I and II" · 4:36am May 12th, 2014
So... lots of things to discuss, but rather than do an elaborate summary or play-by-play of 44 minutes worth of TV, I'll go straight to the Good, the Bad, and the Meh.
Spoilers Below!
The Good:
* Discord's whole meeting with the villain Tirek. Well-acted and a rare dialogue between two different villains.
* Twilight struggling to contain the magic of four alicorn princesses.
* Epic duel between Twilight and Tirek, DBZ style!
* Kind of sad, but it was impressive that we witnessed the loss of the Golden Oaks Library onscreen.
* Cool new crystal tree kingdom in Ponyville!
* All the little touches that show Discord is truly considered part of the Mane Cast's circle of friends.
* Totally unintentional, but TwiShy shipping moment! And same for RariJack and Rainbow Pie!

The Bad:
* A missed opportunity to see more of what the realm of Tartarus looks like. It's not everyday we see a children's show version of the Underworld, complete with three-headed dog.
The Meh:
* The songs. They're great for the show, but I can live without 'em.
* The cameo of Flash Sentry in the Crystal Empire. Nice continuity for the movie, but what else does he contribute besides being a non-Crystal Pony? I'm just sayin'.
So, long story short, I liked this finale and all the buildup for the climax. It was a great culmination of the season-long arc and had a few nice touches in both its villain and its theme of friendship. Can't wait for Season 5!
Don't forget about the Discord and Celestia shipping hint they snuck in at the end there!
