The Document of Pony Gear Solid: Delays, Trains, and Automobiles · 11:12am May 27th, 2012
If anybody's wondering why the next chapter of PGS is taking so long, I've got a very simple, very specific answer for you.
I've been working on it for quite some time, and was making some serious headway on it. Actually, I was pretty close to a finished first draft. But then I made the mistake of actually thinking about what I'd written, and I came to the conclusion that the scenario in the chapter made absolutely no sense, and was, in fact, rubbish. Some of the worst rubbish I'd ever written, actually. Literally, nothing about it made any sense whatsoever. There was an issue with the timeline, the pacing, the content... the... everything else. So I canned it. Roughly ten thousand words and several weeks' worth of progress, down the drain, because I hated what I'd written.
I don't pretend that I'm writing some literary masterpiece. It's ponies meet Solid Snake; it's shlocky wish fulfillment, verging on garbage. But I want to make it the best damn garbage that I possibly can, and the chapter as I'd written it did not live up to my standards. So I rethought it. I have a better idea, a far more workable idea, and now I'm currently working from there.
That means, unfortunately, that it's going to take more time to deliver a new chapter. I hope you can bear with the delay. I'm legitimately sorry that I keep my readers waiting so long, and so often. I offer you My Little Immortal, occasionally, to salve the wound, but I know it's not quite enough. Just hang in there, guys, please. I'm doing the best I can.
WRITE FASTER!

That ironic gif aside. (Feel free to delete).
Yep.
Ha ha, what? I don't think so.
Conceptually all crossovers between such different sources is trashy, but your fic itself is quite good. And while it's not the most popular around (slower updates do that, no mater how good the fic inmost cases), it's definitely well written, true to sources, and highly entertaining.
138152 I appreciate the sentiment, but I sometimes like to remind myself that my story is about a genetically engineered supersoldier and a band of quirky horses battling mercenaries to prevent a nuclear holocaust on a land populated by fairy tale animals. Remembering the silliness of the premise keeps me from taking it too seriously, keeps me from getting a big head. I've seen one too many fan fic authors lose perspective and swell their egos over their work, and I don't want to become that.
Hence, "garbage." I don't self-depricate unless there's a fine reason... even if that reason only makes sense in my head.

Well if you read my last paragraph I was awknowledging that. Yes the premiise is dumb but it's fanfiction.
Just because it's stupid does not make it bad. But that's what fanfiction is for anyway. Let's you focus on improving technically since you are writing for a pre existing universe(s).
I agree with keeping things in perspective, but that includes not just keeping yourself humble with the reality you are writing silly crossover fanfiction, but also awknowleging that you are writing entertainment for fans and not beating youself up for doing something for fun
It has a silly premise, of course, but it's far from "garbage". It would be garbage if the story took itself too seriously for its premise or didn't take itself seriously enough to keep readers engrossed.
Your self-consciousnesses has so far kept it from dipping into either of these pits, but I don't think you need to whip yourself too hard over it. Methinks you are far from the levels of egotism needed to require stuff like that.
