Shadowmane PX-41

Just your average british lad. I write things for a living. It’s the strangest living you’ll ever find, second only to my inability to take myself off of the grid.

The BEST And WORST Of Season 4 · 8:43pm May 10th, 2014

What a season it's been! So many new places and ponies, new catchy songs to sing, Weird Al! I've had so much fun with this Season. There were so many things about it that I liked, but at the same time, some of the things I disliked.

Hello, I'm Shadowmane PX-41, and today, I'll be listing my Best and Worst episodes from Season 4. Keep in mind, this is MY opinion, MY opinion. Your opinions may differ and if you want to describe how they differ, be sure to leave a comment below after you read this list.

But without further ado, let's jump into the list!!!

BEST EPISODES:

Princess Twilight Sparkle:
What did you expect? This was a very dark and edgy opening to the season, and I'm sure most of you will agree with me on this one, not only did we see some real terror with the Plunder Seed Vines (By the way, Maleficent reference anyone?) But also, Discord was in this one, and his humour is always welcome in my books. Also, those flashbacks, no denying it. Nightmare Moon was badass before Season 1 even began.

Flight To The Finish:
Who didn't like this episode? Come on, I dare you to actually say you didn't like this episode. Ok, now that those guys are out of the way, let me talk about this. Flight To The Finish was a very gripping episode and focused more on Scootaloo. (As if she didn't get enough screentime in Sleepless In Ponyville) But not only did Scootaloo accept the fact that she is flightless, it took a very touching talk scene to convince her, and I like the long reassuring scenes, they make me feel happy after a torrent of sadness. Also, Diamond is getting crafty, and Hearts As Strong As Horses makes its' debut.

Power Ponies:
I know it's ripping off Power Rangers, but they did it in style here. Coming up with the perfect storybook elements needed for a comic series. A Robin-like sidekick for humour, power beyond compare, catchy names. And of course, the inventive villain powers! The Mane-iac is done very well and her power is what you'd expect from a comic villain, it's surreal, it's evil, and only she can use it. She's like an MLP Doctor Octopus when you get down to the fact that she uses her own hair for literally everything!

Three's A Crowd:
Because Discord, Discord is always welcome in the terms of humour. Faking some surreal illness just so he could make it seem funny. Also, Singing Discord. Someone was even singing Glass Of Water today at the Finale Party, as part of the Karaoke section. Also, that fricking Tatzlwurm, was awesome. Mythical creatures are very inventive in MLP as of now.

Pinkie Pride:
Weird Al is best song pony as of now. Not only was Weird Al integrated well as Cheese Sandwich, but the multitude of songs here from both him and Pinkie, really set the stage for me here. It's also the funniest thing, Cheese ripping off the Smile Song, and Pinkie even calling it. That was cool. But another thing that impressed me, is Diamond FINALLY getting songtime, also short lived like the Breezie callbacks today, it's short and sweet. I expect a FULL song from her in Season 5.

It Ain't Easy Being Breezies:
Mane 6 Breezies, enough said.

Maud Pie:
Maud. Is. AWESOME!!! Even though she's the most emotionless character in the entire series, Maud is cool, no denying that. She can pound through boulders like pastry dough. Also, her pet Boulder, Tom's got some competition now. And while there were some parts of this I hated, there wasn't enough for me to remove it from this list altogether.

Twilight's Kingdom:
Do I really have to say why this was so brilliant? Okay, for those of you who missed my review, let me start by saying one thing. As of now, Tirek is the most powerful villain in the entire series! Not even Equestria Girls' Demon can top Tirek's dark power! He's also the only villain to have destroyed anything that ponies use. Sure Nightmare Moon and Celestia dueled in the flashback, but no-one used those parts of the castle much. Tirek completely ANNIHILATES the Golden Oaks Library and leaves Twilight homeless, all the while bearing death threats and powerful dark magic to back those threats up. Also, even though it was a Hasbro Marketing Gimmick, Rainbow Power is my new favourite VKM (Villain Killing Magic)

So that was the best, but that about the worst? Once again, this is MY opinion, and if you guys think differently, be sure to say your thoughts in the comments below. But without further ado, let's recap the worst of Season 4.

WORST EPISODES:

Castle Mania:
Don't get me wrong, The Pony Of Shadows did sound good on words, but the delivery kind of sucks, seeing as we never see who this Pony Of Shadows even is, also, all the while Pinkie, PINKIE! Is putting the girls through hell by playing some weird-ass pipe organ. If I wanted to see the Castlevania series, I would have wasted my money already. Also, the reasons the girls even go to the castle seem kind of forced. So yeah, sounded good, didn't deliver.

Bats!:
My god, Applejack is killing herself here. After some decent roles in like Season 3, with One Bad Apple and Apple Family Reunion, she has to be degraded to one of the most horrible stereotypes I've ever seen; The Voice Of War. Not only was Applejack blindsighted by rage, she also encouraged the girls to fight with her, not even letting Fluttershy's opinions be heard. I just wish Flutterbat had killed that horrible excuse for a cowgirl!

Rainbow Falls:
Jesus, they couldn't have done anything better? Well, shit. I did kind of like the tryouts for the games, but there were a lot of things that pushed a lot of bad notes here. The name they gave to Roid Rage, The Wonderbolts pressurizing Rainbow, and Rarity's stupid excuse for a team uniform. I swear, they could have made the tryouts a lot more exciting, but unfortunately, we weren't so lucky. At least the setting is kind of cool though.

Filli Vanilli:
No, Pinkie! BAD PINKIE!!! SIT IN THE CORNER AND THINK ABOUT YOUR APPALLING ROLE IN THIS EPISODE!!! Yeah, Pinkie and the voice of doom don't really go so well together, especially when she's directing all of this to poor, dear, Fluttershy. She's torturing best Mane 6 Pony by being the voice of doom and failure. Also, I thought the Ponytones would have a wider variety of songs to sing in this episode, but all we get is Find The Music In You, which, while it does seem like a good song, can get very repetitive at times.

Twilight Time:
Oh... My... Fucking... GOD!!! Diamond was really off form in this episode. Now, let's start from the basics, Diamond always finds a way to get back on top when someone else in her class is more popular then her. She's even had the drive to blackmail ponies at times. She should not be kissing the hooves of the CMC just because they get private lectures with Twilight!!! Diamond should have found a way to get back at them for that, not follow in their footsteps. Chantel should have said no to this episode.

Somepony To Watch Over Me:
No, just, no. Applejack is murdering her character here, she's taking overprotectiveness a little too far here. I mean come on, she's treating Applebloom Like a baby! By the way, Padded Ponies And Adult Foals, get writing, Padded Fetish folder, add a story based on this. But other than that, I thought the Chimera would be an interesting monster in this series, turns out it's nothing more than arguing triplets. I mean come on, go back to Yu-Gi-Oh! Where you belong, stupid Chimera.

Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3:
While the History Of The Wonderbolts did intrigue me during this episode, the pacing was either too fast or too slow. The humour was also a little off, and while I did like Rapper Pinkie, it still wasn't enough to make me think otherwise. Also, with the number of arguments in this Season, I'm surprised the Windigos didn't return. Also, Dash felt so defeated afterwards, and it smashed her character development here. Not good.

Equestria Games:
It did feel kind of forced onto the series here, I mean, the build up was kind of cool throughout the two episodes before the side-plot of the games. But once it was executed, I kind of hated it. Spike just seemed to make me want to kill something here, I mean, stage fright is a thing, but Spike had dealt with this before in Hearth's Warming Eve, and before you even go there. It was a little smaller, but it was still a large crowd nonetheless. And while the danger scene was kind of cool with the frozen cloud, I kind of still hated this episode.

And that's all for Season 4. It's been a wild ride with many ups and downs. But now it's over and done with, Season 4 is finished. We're done here, cut, print it, ship it off to the KCAs (Kids Choice Awards) Let me know what you thought about Season 4 and if you agree or disagree with me on a few things.

Until next time, This is Shadowmane PX-41, Signing off.
