My Little Reviews: Trade Ya · 4:04pm Apr 19th, 2014
Well, got to say, sort of enjoyed Trade Ya. Really loved it, if not for the ending! Okay, the beginning of the ending, the ending was still super good.
The whole thing with RD and FS reminded me of an old game I used to play called Legend of (something, can’t really remember) where in one of the areas your guy went to, you basically ran around a Roman trading district, trading this for that so you could get something else with your merchandise and it brought back fond memories of my childhood.
Oh yeah, it also reminded me of the modern day trading bazaar called Craig’s List, but who really gives a shit about that? Most of us bronies are nostalgic and MLP does its best to cater to our whims with references to things like Gone With the Wind, and other junk like that in the first two seasons, so I connect to that reason why I love MLP whenever I can.
Why did the beginning of the ending kind of kill the episode? Just what the heck IS the beginning of the ending anyway? Well, it’s when Twilight goes “Sorry Rainbow but the trade was fair.”
Yeah, this is what we in business like to call BULLSHIT! BAD PRINCESS TWILIGHT!
Why?
When Rainbow Dash and DD Book Trader were talking, the trader agreed on a price beforehand. “If you go and get me this dog, then I’ll give you this book.” THAT WAS THE DEAL! It was the price tag, and hell, just finding stuff to trade for the dog could also be interpreted as part of the price. No training by Fluttershy whatsoever!
Rainbow runs herself and Fluttershy ragged getting that dog, and then the trader just goes: sorry don’t want it anymore.
That’s right kids, today’s moral is: even if you agree to something, you can always break your word at a later date because you change your mind on a whim.
Twilight should have busted that pony’s ass for breaking their verbal contract and changed the moral to: Stick to your word or it will come back to bite you.
But other than the moral (which the writers are supposed to have the episodes kind of revolve around) the whole thing was pretty good. Nice background animations with all the ponies running two and fro while other stuff is going on in the foreground, and nice friendly conflict between RariJack with Pinkie Pie giving the Flim Flam brothers a run for their money.
Oh, except where the part where Twilight is starting to develop hording tendencies. Cut that shit out Twi, it’s not healthy. I've had family members with that problem and I'd hate to see the library become some cluttered mess.
Am I the only one that has a problem with Rainbow selling Fluttershy into slavery. I mean, she changed her mind, but the Element of Loyalty was going to do it!
