  • TBroken Wings, Scattered Dust
A weary terror from an urban myth postpones her retirement for one last job at the behest of a friend. The weirdest and least straightforward job she's ever worked on follows--and then her little sister goes and gets herself tangled up in it.

Getting a grip on things again, slowly. The space between miniarcs here is going to be pretty big for an interlude; from the first miniarc, I'm halfway to the start of the second one, so things are looking good in terms of this being the longest arc yet.

So I found a place, courtesy of a work contact. It's a decent enough place, but rent is fairly steep for low income nubbies like my brother and myself, so landing a better paying job (preferably sustainable) is really, really important, for the time being. I'm considering options. There's a chance I could become a delivery driver, which pays a bit more than four times as much as I'm currently making. Outside of that I'm going to be poking around for decent entry-level office jobs. A reasonable miracle would be if I got a job as a writer or graphic designer, but since my portfolio in either case isn't all that impressive, I'm not counting on this. At all.

Pony Expressiveness

Humans have a lot of ways to express themselves--speaking, tone of voice, body language, gestures, facial expressions. Ponies? Not so much. They spend most of their time on all fours. We have seen them gesture with forelegs quite a bit in the show, but that comes down to how okay you are with ponies occasionally going bipedal. Otherwise, there really isn't many ways for ponies to express themselves: speaking, tone of voice, facial expressions, and the more subtle cues like how they hold their tail (and wings if applicable) or flick their ears. Pawing at the ground or kicking at dirt, maybe, and usually where they're looking are good cues too.

The lack of independent digits makes for some interesting challenges at times, and I would expect--if you take it far enough--that it would cause something other than a decimal number system to be standard, like base four or something. (Obviously not supported by canon, but a lot of what is canon wouldn't have come about in a pony-based society, much less one lacking digits and opposable thumbs. Their doors, chairs, tables, hell even books and whatnot would look waaaay weirder than they do in the show.)
