How does this usually work? I always assumed that if I wrote a story people would be like, "Hey, cool story, want some cover art?" Which has not come to pass at the point of me writing this. So, should I seek out art on deviantart and/or google images? If I find something should I ask them before I use it or should I just take it and credit the source? I really need help here this is an entirely new field of etiquette of which I am wholly uneducated.
I recommend that you can either search on Google images or request some art from someone in the "Art for Fanfiction" Group. I personally love cover art made specially for one story. However, if you need to just search for some on Google, but you MUST give credit to the original artist. Also, I found out that stories with cover art tend to be liked more then those without it.
1879705 The art for fanfiction group? I just joined that, read the rules, and posted my dossier thing but I'm still not entirely sure how to work it. Do I just scroll through the talent listing until I find someone who I think would be good, contact them however it says to contact them, and say, "hello, I've got this story and I was hoping you could provide some art for it,"? Thanks for commenting, by the way.

Yes, you should probably scroll through the talent listings. I posted the same thing for my story but nobody respond, so I scrolled through and I'm getting cover art made right now. So it should work, please if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
1879731 Very nice, thank you.

Well, I gave him some tips on how to find people, not exactly you.
