ErraticOverlord

But, if ErraticOverlord is dead, why the empty grave?

T

I open my eyes and they fill with light. A harsh, bright, light that cause me to shut them again, instantly.

What's going on? What happened?

Hello, Princess Twilight Sparkle. I think I can answer those questions for you.

The voice sounds like mine, but instead of coming from the outside, it originated from inside my head. I open my eyes, again, squinting.

Who are you?

The room I'm in is white, bare for the most part. There's medical equipment lined up against the wall, including an IV running down to my forehoof. There's a door at the far end of the room, closed from the outside world, and no windows. The only light comes from sterile lamps on the ceiling. It seems like a hospital, but looks can be deceiving.

I'm your supplementary memory unit, or SMU, for short.

Pinkie Pie erupts from the room, eyes filled with heavenly fire and a salmon fervently clutched in her mouth. She raises a hoof, glaring, and points at me, saying, "Nopony beats me at this game. Nopony."

But before I talk about that, I should probably fill you in on what happened before.

Inspired by my first introduction to Competitive Magic: The Gathering, and the Easter holiday.

Made, pretty much because of The Eating Food Group's Inhaling Food story folder.

It's funny what failure does to ponies. I could complain about my former success in show business, how my act swept my fame through Equestria high and low; but when I think about it, I can't bring myself to care.

A tear slides down my cheeks and hits the ground where the illusion was moments ago.

I don't care.

Right?

Pinkie Pie turns another page of notes, alone in the basement of Twilight's library. She hears a crash upstairs and then a sound like a flame being ignited. She hears him hesitate at the bottom of the stairs, then speak. "Chrysalis is going to be angry you're influencing the process."

Where do Pinkie's loyalties lie? With changelings or with ponies? How big of a difference is there?

Though daytime I do disappear
At night I'm always present, near
Your magic does naught
To keep me at bay
But all the while
I won't go away
Though try as you might
To ensure I'm gone
While we're in the night
You're never alone.

To Applejack, magic is a fickle thing; she's chosen to bear an Element of Harmony one day, and the next she's scratched by something while exploring a cave. What will she find of this lost magic and was it really lost or did somepony try to hide it?

Whatever it is, Applejack's going to find out.

There’s nothing like getting lost in a good book. Unless of course you’re quite literally lost in a good book with your only chance of escape hinging on a finicky fairy, in which case I’d imagine there’s nothing like that either. It’s times like these, when I’m tied to a stone slab, about to be sacrificed to fulfill a prophecy and bring about the end times, that I wonder about things: like, what have I done with my life? Why would Twilight even have this book in her library? I wonder what fairies taste like and how I should prepare them when I inevitably cook mine up and eat him?

I don't think this day could get worse.

To Rarity, something seemed incredibly off about Cheddar Cheese. He was a perfectly nice pony and nopony had anything bad to say about him. But Rarity felt something from him that she had no idea what to make of. One week ago Cheddar Cheese came into Rarity's boutique to buy a red dress for his fillyfriend.

I wonder what she'll say.

"Oh hush, Mellie can hear you."

"From this distance?"

"That's why she holds her wings like that. She cups 'em around her ears to hear better."

"Does that work?"

"All I know is, that filly hears more of my conversations than the ponies I'm talking to do."

An experimental story with only dialogue. I'm not entirely sure how I should have tagged this. Comments of any kind are encouraged. I hope you enjoy!
