Which came first, the three races of pony or the alicorns?
The way I see it, there are two possible ways this could play out when it comes to the origins of ponies. The first is that the three races arose, and then bred together somehow to produce the first alicorns. The second is that the alicorns came into existence, and then produced offspring of their own; because of degeneration, those offspring turned out inferior, retaining one of three major qualities that alicorns enjoy (direct casting magical horns, weather manipulating magical wings, and Earth manipulating magic).
But I might be wrong. There might be other variations of these, or scenarios where both arose at the same time. Feel free to speculate in the comments. I want to hear what folks think.
Different species never converge and become able to interbreed. Therefore alicorns necessarily came first. As explained here.
