Chapter 8 of Doctor and Ditzy's Science Theater is finished + news! · 10:11am Feb 6th, 2014
Hello! Chapter 8 is done. Certainly didn't take me very long this time. To be completely serious for a moment here, I really hate how suicide is depicted in this story. Hate it! Suicide is something that needs to be done carefully and intelligently. Like rape, for example. It can't just be thrown in your story. And it isn't well handled in Darkness of Love at all. It seems to be JUST a plot device to keep Spike in Ponyville and to make him understand just how important Twilight is to him. And it came out of nowhere. After Twilight tries to kill herself, for some reason, the story decides to have comedy bits with Spike getting drunk and sleeping with Rainbow Dash. Then after Twilight's second suicide attempt, the story tries to be funny again by having Twilight act loopy from her medication. WHAT THE HECK.
And none for Twilight's friends support her after her suicide attempt except Spike and Applejack. NONE. You would think the other members of the Mane 6 would be with her day and night to help her beat her depression. Rainbow Dash, the Element of Loyalty, does absolutely NOTHING to help Twilight, and never tries to comfort her after learning about her suicide attempt. Fluttershy never even appears or is mentioned until the end of the story. Rarity doesn't do anything either. None of the characters treat Twilight's suicide attempt as seriously as they should, not even the doctors. Instead of staying with Twilight or finding a person to watch over her, Spike goes out to his job and goes drinking with Rainbow Dash. And he's actually surprised that Twilight tries to kill herself again. Never leave a suicidal person alone!
I honestly think the story would be a lot better if it took Twilight's depression more seriously and was more about Spike's relationship and friendship with Twilight. Really, it did have potential. Or maybe it should have never been done that all. I feel a lot better after writing that. I needed to get that off my chest.
A few pieces of news. I have the next two stories I am going to do decided. The Incredibly Dense Mind of Rainbow Dash by Chengar Qordath(The Original Version) and The Legend of Starlight by twow443 and its sequels Book 2 and 3. I think they are going to be really fun to do. I actually really adore Legend of Starlight for how silly and unintentionally hilarious it is. I also created an official blog for Doctor and Ditzy's Science Theater on Tumblr. Something I have wanting to get around to doing for awhile. Damn laziness!
