Future Plans: More Queen Twilight... and an original Sci-Fi Fantasy AU? · 5:45am Jan 29th, 2014
As I slowly piece together Chapter 3 of In Her Element, I'm also making plans for what to work on next.
First of all, thanks to the unexpected popularity and overwhelmingly positive response to The Reign of Twilight, I've decided that, while it is complete in and of itself, I would love to write more one-shot 'chapters' of scenes taking place in this version of Equestria. I'm thinking that the first scene I'd like to write might be a glimpse into what one of the other Mane 6 is doing, given their present circumstances. However, I'm not sure which one to cover first, so I'll turn that over to you guys. Which one of the Mane 6 should I write the next scene about? Let me know your opinion in the comments below.
Secondly, on top of writing In Her Element, I'm answering the call for more SciFi ponies. I'm neck-deep in world building as I establish an entirely original Sci-Fi Fantasy AU, tentatively called Mythic!Equestria. I'm putting a lot of my initial energy into making sure the AU is both dynamically different from Canon!Equestria, but still retains the core dynamics and thematic elements by attempting to seamlessly bring together Sci-Fi era technology, a well-defined and consistent Magic System, and a new layer of mythology and lore into this AU. In short, I am stripping Equestria down to the bare essentials—candy-colored equines in an equine-centric magical world—and reconstructing the rest from there.
Some of the biggest changes that I can confirm at this point are:
–Ponies will be Bipedal Anthro-style, rather than feral.
–The names of the Mane 6 and many major characters will be different. However, they will mostly keep their color schemes and personalities (with a few exceptions to make the lore function as designed) and will be clearly recognizable.
–The Sci-Fi nature of the AU means that some of the Mane 6 and other characters will have slightly different, but still character-consistent, talents.
–This is not Future!Equestria. There is no timeline continuity between the show and this AU. The history of this version of the MLP world will be very different.
–The Magic system I'm writing will be as central to Mythic!Equestrian society as their technology, if not more so. Magic will be the trait that defines the three 'races'.
–On that note, say goodbye to the three pony races as you know them. In Mythic!Equestria, there is no visible physical difference between them. A pony's 'race' will be determined by their magic type: Nature, Enhancement, Transmutation, or Creation. And a Pony's magic type will be genetic, not an acquired skill.
There's a lot more that I'm not willing to reveal, and a lot more still that I have yet to finalize myself. Consider this a teaser, and let me know what you think in the comments below.
