Gryphon History
The War of Unification
The War of Unification was an Equestrian-backed war primarily led by Aldeus Stormfeather, a leader of one of the many Gryphon tribes that existed from 23 AD to 4,325 AD.
In 4,317 AD, Aldeus Stormfeather appealed to the High Court of the Sun with the intention of putting an end to the tribal hostilities of the warring Gryphon tribes, which had erupted over food and nesting rights.
He suggested a unified Gryphon nation led by himself, and in return Equestria would not be under the threat of having their land invaded by Gryphon tribes acting on their own accord when seeking more nesting and feeding sites.
Despite Aldeus Stormfeathers' obvious intentions of creating a Gryphon Empire (which he created shortly after the war) and desire for power, Celestia publicly funded the war. No Equestrian troops would cross the border, but supplies such as weapons, armor, building materials, and food would be sent in conveys to the Gryphon tribes that had allied under Aldeus Stormfeather.
The Containment War
The Containment War, as it is commonly referred to, was the war following the War of Unification, in which Aldeus Stormfeather successfully united the remaining Grpyhon tribes under one flag and created a nation, which soon grew into an Empire as Aldeus's hunger for power grew.
As Equestria amassed its troops on its northern borders, Celestia knew that she could not, whether she chose to or otherwise, dissolve the standing Empire. A decision was made to halt the advance of any and all Gryphon troops into Equestrian territory, while dispatching security forces to the Gryphon Empire's neighboring countries should they ask for assistance.
The Containment War officially ended in favor of Equestria and her allies with the assassination of Aldeus Stormfeather by a religious sect of the population. Although deemed extreme, even today, it is commonly accepted that, had he not been stopped, Aldeus would have either driven the Gryphon race to extinction or taken over Equestria.
The Gryphon nation continues to exist as an Empire, albeit a peaceful one under the ruling party of The Featherwings; a religious family of Gryphons.
