What does Twilight's Ascension really mean? · 4:05am Dec 7th, 2013
Megan McCarthy has stated that "Twilight will not outlive her friends" and most people assume that means that she is not an immortal like Luna and Celestia. I wonder.
Megan didn't say "Twilight is not an immortal" she avoided directly answering the question with a clever deflection. After all, if Twilight's friends end up being immortal, (for one example) Twilight could be immortal as well and Megan's statement that "Twilight will not outlive her friends" could still be true.
Thoughts?
The one 'Alicorn' Fluttershy doll that we've seen may well be an example of the rest of the Mane 6 ascending. Maybe the 'Keys' are their horns? And each will be ascending during the course of this season?
I suspect one of three things will happen:
* All six will ascend and become immortals, ruling Equestria together as some kind of Council of Harmony after Celestia and Luna ascend still higher (or just retire).
* Generation 4 ends before anyone gets old enough for this to be a problem, and G5 picks up in its place with entirely new characters and perhaps even an entirely new world. The big risk here is that they'd lose the entire brony fandom in the process, since everything they'd become invested in about MLP would be gone. They *might* still be able to pull it off by having the action set in a new city, avoiding big adventure storylines that put the world at risk (and thus involve the government), and having G4 characters make occasional special appearances.
* Twilight doesn't outlive her friends because she dies first, perhaps sacrificing herself to save the world. Highly unlikely, since this is still a kids' show and that's pretty damned dark.
1579902 This one sounds almost plausible of Larsen to do. Serial escalation is his forte.
The thing about imortallity, is so long as you can still die from physical trama, or otherwise, is that if you truely want to die with your mortal friends, you can still kill yourself, to simulate a limited lifespand.
Also, nothing stops you from researching a way to make your friends immortal too.
I was brought back here by another possibility that's surfaced recently. The "Rainbow Power" ponies that have been showing up in ads and teasers recently could represent a way for Twi to not outlive her friends. Maybe when they open the mystery box it somehow allows each of them to internalize the power of their respective Element. When they're using their Elements, they go into "Rainbow Power" mode (hence the new toys). As a side-effect of absorbing so much magic into themselves, the other ponies are also rendered immortal.
Of course, then you can cue the outcry about them all outliving their families and loved ones.
If the next five years of MLP are planned like Hasbro said, (I think) then maybe over the next five seasons a new Main Six member will become an alicorn?
