The Premier and its Implications (Probably has Spoilers... So don't read this if you haven't watched the new episode) · 3:53pm Nov 24th, 2013
So season 4 aired. A fun two-parter with a bit of an adventure vibe going for it. I love adventure, I really do, and this episode had worldbuilding in spades. However I feel that it came at the price of the mane 6 having better thought-out actions, lines, depth and even struggles. The mane 6 kind of felt a little like they were played one-dimensionally there, well, except for Twilight. And the conflict that cropped up between them as friends seemed a little forced...
That's not to say I disliked the episode. I rather enjoyed it. It was a solid episode. And the world-building was petty fun, even if I could guess what the flashbacks were going to be about before it showed what happened. And I suppose it is in conflict with my SoC universe... though that doesn't really upset me at all. It's my spin on the universe from a certain point. I don't need to include Alicorn Twi, I don't need Discord to have faced the two sisters on an open field instead of in the city that he had created. And I have my own idea of how elements are created in my universe of course. (Though I'm sure I could get it to work alongside the canonical explanation of the elements.)
So yeah, enjoyable episodes. I always feel Adventure episodes add that sense of depth to the world that makes writing fanfics of this series so enjoyable and fascinating, even if they often end up being some of the weaker episodes in terms of characters and their struggles. I look forward to the coming episodes with anticipation, especially the episodes that focus on a smaller cast.
Here's to a hopefully solid season,

Yeah it did come off as a little 2D and flat. At least Q was himself.
I tend to blame the format for moments like these. The amount of time they have to tell even double-length episode stories means they have to strugle just to hit all of the important bits A little more establishment that Twilight is important (Beyond two guards, and in front of the mane six) and a more gradual threatening of her life in the Everfree probably would have done wonders.
Overall, though, I enjoyed it.
I agree with you, the conflicts between the mane 6 did feel forced. Though I. Suspect that's because they are starting to write episodes with enough meat to them that an entire movie could be written from. Naturally, when you have too much to cover in your time span, the overall story starts to suffer.
I'm happy this season is starting this well. After all the plot holes and forced "character" development season 3 had, I was a bit worried.
That is pretty much my exact stance on it. A little too rushed, and not much in the way of character, but great world-building.
Not a Twilicorn fan I'm guessing by the way you said alicorn twi. I enjoyed the episodes a crap ton and have not a single complaint but that of course is from my point of view and entirely my opinion. Glad you did enjoy them though and I do think this season is going to be something great.
1550952 No, I don't mind Twi being an alicorn. Her ascension makes sense, and as far as I am concerned it's just an extension of her character. It's not like they changed who she is as a character when she got her wings. I'm just saying that Twilight in AHoC is not an alicorn, simply because it doesn't makes sense for her character in my particular storyline.
1551126 Oh okay I get it now. I usually ask that cause of my terrible experiences on Equestria Daily. Geez the drama really does exceed insane heights on that site. lol. Glad you aren't discouraged about what did become canon though and that you will reach your NaNo goal as well!
