Other bad My Little Pony episodes · 12:25am Nov 13th, 2013

I’ve previously gone over on Magic Duel, and claimed it as the worst episodes, but which episodes are close, which ones are almost as bad, if not as bad as Magic Duel? Well, let’s find out:

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING EPISODES ARE NOT IN ORDER

Spike at your Service:
Oh, God, I don’t even know where to start. It starts with Twilight reading some books from Celestia so she gives Spike the day off, Spike later gets confronted by a Timberwolf, but is saved by Applejack. Because of this, Spike feels eternally grateful.

I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist. XD

So, Spike claims he wants to help Applejack because of his Dragon Code. Spike goes to tell Twilight about it, and she completely ignores him, giving Spike the chance to go to Applejack. And if you could believe it, he actually screws up every single thing he has to do. (We’ll get to these flaws later, trust me) Applejack gets sick of it, and asks Twilight to talk some sense into him. But unlike a good friend who would talk Spike that saving each other’s lives is just part of being friends, they make up a fake Timberwolf attack for Spike to save Applejack. But then a REAL Timberwolf comes along for Spike to really save Applejack, and that’s the end.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE EPISODE?

First of all, who wrote this episode? Dave Polsky (Co-writer of Scary Movie 2 and creator of The Buzz on Maggie (Which I both HATE)) and Merriwether Williams (Former writer on SpongeBob Squarepants, the good seasons and another bad Spike episode we’ll get to later). (Sigh) Why am I not surprised?

First of all, every character is totally backwards. Spike is not a screw-up. He seems to do any task fine, why is he screwing everything up? You could make an argument that he was enthusiastic about this, but he was enthusiastic serving Twilight, so yeah,

Knock-Knock!
Who’s There?
CONTINUITY!!!!!!!!

Then there’s Twilight, who in this episode, mostly acts annoying, like a jerk, OR BOTH! She completely ignores Spike and tosses him around like an old shoe. She didn’t even care that he was almost attacked by a Timberwolf! If anyone needed to learn a lesson, it wasn’t Spike, it was YOU, Twilight!

Boast Busters:
This episode is two things. Odd and mean.

It starts with Twilight practicing magic, while Spike keeps complimenting her on it. But then they hear news from Lame and Lamer (Yeah I know they’re actually called Snips and Snails, but screw it, you’re not gonna call them that, you’re just gonna call them Lame and Lamer) that there’s a new unicorn in town known as The Great and Powerful Trixie, a unicorn with magical talents who also claimed to have vanquished a creature called the Ursa Major.

Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity don’t like this character, because they feel she keeps boasting about her talents. But when Trixie uses her talents to humiliate Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity, Twilight isn’t sure about using magic like Trixie because she might lose her friends by being a show-off.

But when an Ursa-Major comes into town, can Twilight use her magic to save her friends when it turns out Trixie can’t do it herself? Well, what do you think?

WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS EPISODE?
I’m just gonna say it, this is a very strange episode. Magic is an ordinary thing in this universe, so why would there need to be someone performing magic in a show when you can just do it yourself? It’s like when you have birds and one bird that performs by flying, it’s just so strange!
The next problem is that every character is a butthole. I will admit, it was true Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity were out of character by calling out Trixie, but I don’t like Trixie either. She is VERY annoying, her character is annoying, her voice is annoying, she just praises herself and GOD! I just wanna smack her! And just one other thing, remember how Twilight said she thought she heard her laundry calling? Well…

THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stare Master:
This is one of the first episodes to feature the Cutie Mark Crusaders on screen together, while being one of the first, it was also one of the worst of the show. It’s about when Fluttershy foalsits the Crusaders, while Rarity is busy. But Fluttershy finds she can’t control the crusaders as they venture off in the Everfree Forest. Now, Fluttershy has to find the crusaders while also trying to protect herself and the Crusaders from a cockatrice, a creature who can turn others to stone by just looking at someone, just as it did to Twilight.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS EPISODE?
The crusaders are portrayed as thick-headed, obnoxious, loud and ANNOYING! I mean they never shut the heck up! They’re always screaming everything! I know that they’re kids, but didn’t anyone give these little pipsqueaks some brains? SCREAMING IS NOT FUNNY! IT’S LOUD AND ANNOYING!!!

Sorry.

Well, at least the crusaders are not as thick-headed as Twilight Sparkle in this one. She literally thought it would be a good idea to go in the Everfree Forest, by herself and almost get killed by a cockatrice. Yeah, where’s Spike through all this? Twilight said she was leaving for the Everfree Forest in the daytime and Fluttershy found her at night! Twilight’s been gone that long?! Twilight’s supposed to be Princess Celestia’s most faithful student, the one who knows a lot about friendship? She doesn’t even give a crap on how Spike, the first friend she ever made feels about doing something like this!

Oh, and did I forget to mention the Chicken Scootaloo joke. I hate it, I really hate it. It is a stupid internet meme that wasn’t funny from the start that needs to DIE.

The only thing I remember being remotely entertaining was Sweetie Belle singing Gospel. And to be honest, it’s Sweetie Belle, she’s always funny.

Just For Sidekicks:
I’m starting to have a feeling that the people behind My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic have a serious sex thrill of abusing Spike’s character, so much so that they had to take a writer who was on a roll with Sleepless in Ponyville, and have him butcher Spike. I am so looking forward to this one!
It starts with Spike making a jewel cake, but accidentally eats all the jewels. He mopes about this a little, until Fluttershy comes along and asks Spike to watch Angel, and offers a gem.

Um, Fluttershy is the element of kindness, since Spike is an animal, she could just give Spike the gem instead of using it to have watch over Angel?

Anyway, Daffy Duc-I mean Spike gets greedy and decides to bribe the rest of the Mane Six in watching their pets while they go to the Crystal Empire, so they can give him gems. Um, question. WHY WASN’T SPIKE ALLOWED TO GO TO THE CRYSTAL EMPIRE?! From what I remember, HE SAVED IT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!

So, of course, Spike has trouble watching the pets, as Angel sneaks aboard the train to get Spike in trouble because…I have no idea. Spike never did anything to this little jerk, but he wants him busted because…I HAVE NO FREAKING IDEA!!!

While on the way, he’s tricked by Zecora of all ponies, who actually calls him ‘A Dumb Cluck’!

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO POWELL, WRITERS?! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!

So the Cutie Mark Crusaders get involved too, as they, Spike and the pets try to find Angel and get back home. They of course do so, and Spike apologizes for not paying attention to Angel. Uh, Angel, the only reason Spike apologized WAS BECAUSE YOU NEVER GAVE HIM A CHANCE!!!! And after all of Spike goes through, losing all but one of his gem, he eats the last one before he can make the cake he was dying to make.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS EPISODE?
Well, to be honest. I think I pretty much already told you. The only funny thing in this episode was Sweetie Belle’s squeal.

Dragon Quest:
Ugh, another Spike abuse episode? Let’s just get this over with.
It starts with the Mane Six getting ready to watch the Dragon Migration. Spike comes out with cookies and is also wearing an apron. Rainbow Dash decides to act like a complete jerk and laugh at him for being girly. But that’s not all; the others think Spike is perfectly fine and that he doesn’t need to be like other dragons. Okay, I’d probably be fine with this, if the writers didn’t say something like THIS.

Pinkie Pie: Not even close!
Applejack: Why would you want to, Spike?

So, we actually get a pretty well-done, emotional scene where Spike questions what he is and where he came from. Spike then decides to go on a quest and find out what he is. You think this is going to lead to something interesting. But no, instead of him finding out where he belonged (You know, what we would WANT to see), we get dragons acting like bully male stereotypes!

Eventually, Spike becomes a member of the dragons, but quits when he has to smash a phoenix egg. Spike then realizes that he likes being a pony instead of a dragon and goes back to Ponyville.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS EPISODE?
Well, I’ve already gone over what’s wrong with this episode, with the Mane Six acting like jerks, and males being portrayed as bigger jerks. But the biggest problem of this episode is at the ending when they show this picture:

Merriwether, please go back to SpongeBob Squarepants, they need you. We need another Band Geeks. Just anything…other…then THIS!!!!

Return of Harmony:

This episode had promising concept but wasn’t brought to us in the strongest of ways.

The spirit of chaos and disharmony, Discord (voiced by John De Lancie) is released from his stone prison and brings chaos to Equestria. Now the new elements of harmony being the Mane Six, have to stop Discord and avoid his nasty tricks. But while doing that, Discord uses his magic by turning the Mane Six into the opposite of their personalities, while Twilight doesn’t notice what’s going on and disowns them for a little bit. But it’s fixed later and they defeat Discord and save Equestria.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS EPISODE?

I’m just gonna come out and say it, Discord is overrated. He’s kind of funny, but he mostly acts like a school bully. And the scenes with the Mane Six acting like jerks are just downright unpleasant. And Twilight seriously isn’t smart enough to know that Discord is behind of all this? Seriously, Twilight, did you see their colors? The chaos of this is kind of mixed. Some parts are creative, though I honestly thought could’ve been more creative, like this scene.

Now, that was awesome!

And the last episode is…

A Canterlot Wedding:
Remember what I said about Magic Duel, how the ending totally went against everything in the show? Well, this is Magic Duel’s sister episode.
It starts when the Mane Six get an invitation to a wedding for Princess Mi Amore Cadenza and Twilight Sparkle’s brother, Shining Armor, who is the Captain of the Royal Guard. What’s this? Twilight Sparkle has a brother?

Also while heading to Canterlot, they found out an unknown force has threatened Ponyville, and Shining Armor performed a protection spell over Canterlot.

Twilight isn’t sure about him getting married until she finds our Mi Amore Cadenza was actually Cadence, Twilight’s old foalsitter. Twilight is excited at first until she sees Cadence acting like an absolute witch.

Twilight tries to warn her friends, but apparently they left their brains back in Ponyville and don’t seem to notice a thing. Twilight finds Cadence using some kind of spell on Shining Armor and thinks she’s EVIL!!!!

I know people used this before, but I thought of it on my own, so it counts.

So at the wedding rehearsal, Twilight comes in and acuses Cadence for being EVIL!!!!

But after Cadence runs away in tears, Shining Armor tells Twilight Cadence was using her magic to heal Shining Armor’s bad headaches while performing the protection spell. And without giving Twilight a chance to apologize, Shining Armor actually kicks her out of the wedding, and the Mane Six, Spike and even Princess Celestia encourage him!

Friendship is Magic everyone, Friendship is Magic…

But when Twilight is guilt-stricken about, Cadence comes in and it’s revealed that she really is EVIL!!!!

Twilight is trapped underground, where the real Princess Cadence is. That’s right, the mean Princess Cadence was actually Queen of the Changelings, posing as Cadence to take control of Shining Armor and have the Changelings rule Equestria on the day of the wedding.

You know, is it me, or did the Queen’s plan sound way too complicated? I mean if she wanted to take control of Shining Armor and have the Changelings rule Equestria, why didn’t she do that at any other time? What does the wedding have to do with anything?

So after Celestia actually gets knocked out by the Queen. Twilight and her friends try to stop the Changelings but are defeated too quickly. That is until Shining Armor and Cadence use the power of love to defeat the Changelings and their queen.

So after all of that, how do Twilight’s friends feel after they abandoned her at the wedding? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I mean Applejack apologized, but that was a pretty stupid apology after what you did to her?! I don’t care if the wedding turned out great, this episode sucks!

WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS EPISODE?

Yeah, that clip can pretty much some it up.

What kind of brother disowns their sister on the day of his wedding? And also, why would the rest of the ponies leave Twilight in the dust for a pony they just met?

Let’s compare this kind of thing to Toy Story. In Toy Story, this was justified. Why? Because Woody WAS jealous of Buzz Lightyear! And the scene where Woody shows Buzz’s arm is actually done pretty well, because while it shows some toys were mad at him, some toys like Bo Peep and Slinky felt sad when they saw this and that was done well!
Here, the ponies all give Twilight the cold shoulder and give her cold glares. And Princess Celestia doesn’t even apologize to Twilight after the Changeling invasion; she just says “You have a real wedding to put together.”

Friendship is Magic, Friendship is Magic…

DIE!!!!!

Some of your arguements are spot on. Return of Harmony is overhyped and Spike at Your Service and Dragon Quest were bland and sucked.

I'm surprised you didn't include Games Ponies Play or Feeling Pinkie Keen. Those episodes have a lot going against them.
