Rough Copy: #5 - CONSTANT KNOWLEDGE?! · 2:52am Nov 1st, 2013
Okay, so, being a young up-and-coming, I'm always learning new things about the craft. I'm gonna go ahead and guess that doesn't stop anytime soon, huh?
Well, that's kind of fantastic, right? Us writers are always looking for new ways to improve our nonsense.
Then again ... we're always learning new things about the craft. To be honest, sometimes that gets overwhelming. Especially considering the fact that we're always planning, writing, revising, and/or editing, too. Once you learn something new, you start to think about all the parts of your current project that you haven't applied it to ... and the fact that now you'll have to think about it when you're writing everything to come.
The real problems come when you learn more than one major thing to correct in your process. You get this low feeling like there's rocks in your chest, and you try to keep things straight in your head- but WAIT. Then, comes the part where you realize how little you actually know, how much you're supposed to be learning now, how much you will learn (and subsequently have to correct) ...
Don't sweat it. I mean, yeah, it's easy to type, but really, my advice when this stuff happens? Don't worry about stuff you don't even have to worry about yet. Focus on what you've just learned, and above all, take it slow. You can learn new things about the craft your whole life; you don't need to know it all now.
You're still learning, and you will always be still learning.
Happy reading,
Nutters
