Rainfurrest was SO AWESOME *Rainbow Dash kissyface* · 8:22pm Sep 30th, 2013
I got to attend some pony panels, some non-pony panels, and meet up with Chatoyance and Aedina for... nearly all of Friday! Games were played. Fun was had. Next year I'm getting a hotel room to cut back on the WAY TOO MUCH travel time now that I'm no longer living in the U District.
Also I got today off work, so I'm watching the Equestria Girls DVD. And I had a funny idea...
What if the world of Equestria Girls isn't meant to be Earth at all, but a stable Arcduct connecting Equestria and our world, with its inhabitants given forms mostly like the representative dominant species of Earth (humans) but with personalities and minds copied from the mental picture the only two sapient lifeforms to enter (Sunset Shimmer and Twilight Sparkle) had? It would explain why Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna are contemporary with the copies of the mane six, despite the fact that they ought to be dead thousands of years ago on a normal human's lifespan: The HISTORY of Canterlot High didn't develop in parallel with Equestria, instead it extends backwards and forwards in time from the portal openings, creating retroactively whatever history is needed to justify the existence of people like those from Equestria, and society and technology like those from Earth.
Am I just babbling? Or is this making sense to anypony else?
It makes sense to me - BRILLIANT! Equestria Girls takes place in a stable Arcduct... genius!

Hee! Thank you!
Further speculation: The portal was an artifact INTENDED to forge a transuniversal connection with our world. Celestia knew this, but the world beyond was thought to be unstable based on the magic that was sensed from the other side--the unstable Arcduct. Until Sunset Shimmer passed through it, imposing some of the physics of Equestria on the connection, stabilizing it. Sunset Shimmer probably thought she had passed all the way through to a world of humans... but in fact, she never left the connection between. The portal was limted to a short on-off duty cycle as the difference in magic built up and released "pressure" of a sort. (This also explains why the others' wings and extended hair vanished when the portal closed: Equestrian physics was flowing into the Arcduct at that point in its timeline like soda from an upturned bottle, and when the pressure formed another "air bubble" to cut off the flow, magic ceased to be a part of that world for the time being.)
She probably didn't realize her own memories were also modified as Twilight Sparkle's presence added more humans to the school based on ponies Twilight knew from Ponyville... and because the rest of the mane six teamed up would have presented a united opposition to Sunset Shimmer, and this had not happened at that point, she retroactively had to have broken them up.
And for some reason Pinkie Pie is connected in some way with the Arcduct version of herself, which explains both how they both had "hunches" that were exactly correct... and why she melts physics and logic in the main show.
Sure, why not? Sounds better than most explanations, and the technobabble is interesting!

Heh thanks! I do tend to put the "babble" in technobabble. Fortunately, I also put the "techno" in it.
