Hey, I'm protesting the new take on the 'No nonstory-related chapter posting' rule that has happened.
Specifically the one where it basically tells everybody with sequels written months after the previous one to fuck off. Or write an entire chapter just to make sure that the link can be added, which not everyone can do or wants to.
As such, I'm taking a short hiatus. I'll still be writing, but no more posting from me for, idunno, a week or two.
I'd just like to say, that this is a situation easily solved by having some sort of tab or option to have the site add a chapter linking to specific stories so that you can have your story link to your sequel story.
Or, idunno, make it so that a blog post can be entwined with a story, not counting as a chapter for popularity and feature box, but sitting in the story as if it was, like the 'hey guys, we're on hiatus' panels that webcomics do when their authors get sick or whatever.
Seriously, a tick box that says sets a 'chapter' to be labeled as an 'Status' chapter only, and as such is only there so that people keeping an eye on the actual story itself have to see it.
And what's worst of all?
Knighty said not to blow up the site while he was gone, and half the mods decided to be dicks and do it anyways.
I may be terrified of Knighty, but he never went out of his way to be a sack of dicks like these guys are.
It's really only "Ob" being the sack of dicks. How Knighty let him be a moderator, I'll never know. Guy is way to demanding to be a mod in the first place.

Obs is just being pushed along by the other mods. He's the one who was told to do the Site announcements, but don't hate on him for that.
Sigh...
for once, I actually wish Knighty were here.
1372299
It's terrible, but I wish for it as well. So much for epilogues now...
1372307
No, epilogues should be fine, they're still a part of the story.
But a fifteen word 'the story is here' type thing won't be allowed any more.
1372307
Oh, also, I note that you aren't among my loyal followers. Which of my stories do you read, if I might ask?
1372314
Simply ridiculous.
1372318
ah'm just saying, that sort of thing could easily just be on a Blog post permanently attached to the story as a 'last chapter'.
Though, I suppose, we can now add something to the Author's Notes at the end of the epilogue, but not everyone uses them, and the sequel would have to be ready, first.
1372323
Exactly. I'd just say do it until they find a way to get around this.
1372325
Yeah, that's what a lot of folks are saying. but Eldorado is being a turd cake about it.
Oh, yeah, which of my stories do you read, and what do you like and dislike about them? I don't get a lot of feedback, and feedback helps me grow as an author and all.
It also makes my stories more readable.
1372332
I think I followed you because of a blog post, but I think I've read On Nightmare Station. Although I can't fully remember much, I think the pacing was a tad off. That's all I've got.
I agree with both positions, actually. I hate it when I get a chapter update, only to find that it's something that should have been posted as a blog, but at the same time, getting a chapter update on a completed story to find out there is a sequel is something I love. If anything, there needs to be some logical middle ground available here.
1372582
Ah, good to know.
Thank you for the info, I'll do my best.

Again, I present my compromise option:
The ability to set a chapter as a 'Status Update' chapter, which does not count for bumps and can be optionally set to not appear in the left-right browsing of chapters. Make it work like a blog, and is permanently attached to the story, but is used for updating whether the story is on hiatus, cancelled, started back up, has a sequel, has a side-story, etc.
This way, things like 'Ask the Characters' chapters can be done 'out of the story' and even ignored if you just want to read the story, and you can find the 'hey, we have a sequel!' chapter at the end without having it accidentally add it to the front page for the featured box.
Anyhow, that's the idea. Not sure if it'll be liked enough to be implemented, but hey.

Only thing is that, that option will require a large chunk of code that would need to be written, alpha'd, debugged, beta'd, debugged again, then uploaded to the server, and then troubleshot one more time. I can see why they axed everything as it saves a metric f-ton of time and energy.
However, yeah, you have probably have the best middle ground idea in this SNAFU.
1373824
Yeah, I know what you mean,
Say, just as a question, wanna chat on Skype for a bit? I have some free time, if you're available.
